what is the patterned material on the wall at the cooker/ hob? Is there a glass cover at back of hob? Could you tell me the supplier please. Thanks

Thank-you One Plan, yes, I agree, plain glass might be easiest, presumably toughened for behind a gas hob?, but I do love colour and the handmade slightly rustic feel feel, so wondering if anything more decorative might work?, although I can see the point for keeping the bricks on show behind glass. Planning terracotta floor tiles, beech, red, cream and possibly copper accents, but at the moment the space is still being built!

We moved our entire kitchen into the former dining room (after knocking through). For us the focus was getting the most functional space and the extra cost was worth it. I spend a lot of time cooking and the tiny 30s kitchen didn't work for me. Our range cooker went in the chimney breast with the extractor ducted out behind our larder unit. The boiler went to the loft and the washing machine to a new utility. I'd always spend money on getting the layout right and save elsewhere (we reused all our appliances except the range cooker which came off eBay)

There are other options than just getting a free generic design done... we offered a design service. We don’t sell any products, have no commissions coming in from anyone, so are totally focused on getting the design right to suit you ... then you shop around with that design and compare like for like - and buy from whomever you like best ! It’s not free, no. We have several levels of service , but even the most expensive is only about the cost of a good dishwasher, for most average sized kitchens. Shopping around could save you thousands.

I agree with Sonia, if you can have a big enough island you could have an asymmetrical island... I love my eye level oven, so much easier and personally would be my preference (Obviously I know everyone has different balances...) Maybe talk to a kitchen designer? Or a concept planner like @OnePlan (Concept planners) to see what other options there are? You can get some super fancy deigns with hidden sinks or hidden hobs perhaps? a hob reset into the worktop (as opposed to proud of it) Is there an option to do something unexpected? Like move a door, or block a window to give you more wall space? (I chose to leave out a window from my extension/remodel to allow me to put in the units I wanted... Now it's 30 degrees I'm glad I've not got south facing windows in the kitchen!) As with most things, I think it'll come down to budget and what you value more highly unfortunately!
