Tile Arrangement

Hi Everyone,

I am currently renovating my ground floor where we are putting tiles throughout. I have attached the pictures of the cream tiles, it’s got a bit more character and flair in person which will be accommodated by the brownish gold boarder.

The issue is we are not sure as to how to arrange the tiles from entrance to the kitchen (without touching the toilets and storage unit) to make it look elegant.

I was not sure if I should follow along the wall path or have rectangular boarders in each room. Just a tad bit confused.

Purple - couch
Blue - cabinets
Green - TV unit
Orange - kitchen island

I wouldn’t bother with the brown border tiles. Just the marble tiles will be enough and will create an uncluttered floor.

The tiles will be covering the areas coloured light blue on this plan (the white and dark blue will be covered with panelling). Have narrowed it down to three tiles which will fit without too much faffing/cutting: Lucy - a 15x15 tile, though not sure if I should stick with one colour or do some kind of mix with the blues and white. https://www.wallsandfloors.co.uk/bathroom-tiles/lucy-tiles Rhian - a 10x30 tile. I would have to apply the tiles vertically along the worktop by the sink though, as trimming 1-2cm off several 7.5 width tiles sounds like a recipe for lots of broken bits... Any thoughts on tile selection/orientation please? Had a play in Paint at some possibles.

Hi, if you did that, the box would be a very prominent feature and unless the box was the same width as the window sill you would have one surface slightly wider than the other which would look unbalanced so ideally I would leave around 100mm - 150mm between the two surfaces as in the photo. That said, it does depend on the height of the window sill from the floor. These details can be difficult to call which is why we use software and get a 3D visualisation. In answer to your second question, yes you could use chrome or satin nickel finish strip or a glass pencil tile to finishes the top of a tile very nicely and avoid that awkward edge created with a ceramic tile. You could use the strip on its own or with a mosaic of some sort - the pink and grey scheme was an Art Deco style set we did for a bathroom showroom. Chrome strip is versatile and can be used to add that touch of sparkle to an otherwise neutral and understated scheme .

Hi , just remember if you add borders into a floor it can make the space look a little smaller. Keep any borders to the outer edges to keep the space looking as large as possible! I hope that's helpful !

Yes you could, but if you run it mainly around the perimeter of the whole space and don't cut across the entrances into each space it will look larger again.
