Bathroom Access/Move the stairs?
Comments (11)Hello. The cheapest & most efficient way forward is to find a good local architect to help you with the layout. From my experience with similar houses, I know the following 1. that they are feel even narrower in real life than shown in any drawing. 2. that you can achieve better design layouts that allow you to avoid the "long skinny bedroom 2". 3. Similar houses that I have dealt with have low headroom in the loft. So any future loft conversions require due attention at this stage. 4. I know that the floor joists usually run parallel to the flank walls, so you can buy a straight flight of stairs off the shelf that would cost less than £1000 to supply & fit. 5. Storage is usually lacking in these types of houses. Getting an architect to see your house & to come up with design layouts based on accurate measurements will help you create a space that works. It will save you money in the long run....See MoreSmall main bathroom - should we move the wall?
Comments (17)Hello jodg, I see well that's not quite what I had in mind : ) ) ... perhaps consider the closet idea for your bedroom... Regarding the shower screen...possibly an overhead curtain rail as opposed to a glass screen... It negates the need for a wall to fix the glass sheet to.. Or and this one requires more plumbing.. move the loo... in order to leave a smaller bath at that end of the bathroom.. If not then you can enclose the stairs and then fix the shower screen to the "wall" and keep bath at that end and loo and sink at the other end.. possibly losing the storage element under the stairs, which isn't ideal for what you want but it's possible you could create both.. if not smaller storage... : ))...See More9'3x4'5ft skinny bathroom! Comments (15)Thank you everyone! chantelle- I love the design but thinking more brass/gold than silver. Definitely liking the picture rail and chandelier though! Alison- clever use of space there! Love the dark colouring. Headsters- loving the photo and definitely the sort of look I'm thinking. Where did you get the vanity from? Really nice. inga! Your such a tease! (((Sob sob))) love the photos, well all of them aside from the one that I have the space for. :( i should seriously just consider just getting a shower as I know this will look better then cramming a bath in but with a toddler and a concern for resale (especially due to prime school catchment) I am hesitant. Mirrors are a great idea and I do like the shape of the bath in last photo- traditional vibe. if you feel my pain for the bathroom situation then you will be even more saddened to know the kitchen dimensions! lets just say I had better not put on any weight as I may get lodged in cabinet to wall! any ideas on antique looking vanity units and gold brass looking taps would be appreciated. thanks so much to all x...See MoreMoving bathroom upstairs .. where to put it!!
Comments (4)Humm, what a difficult decision. I think perhaps you need a couple of agents to value it as it stands now as a 3 bed with downstairs bathroom vs a 2 bed with upstairs bathroom and more downstairs space. That will give you some idea if you will lose a lot of money just making it suitable for you and a good starting point. As a buyer - with no kids. I would rather have 2 bed and bathroom upstairs than the current setup. If I had children then that might change but do I want kids traipsing downstairs in the middle of the night to get to the toilet? Probably not either. I've found whatever you do, someone will want it different and if you are definately staying there for a few years and it doesn't devalue it much then you will gain the value back in enjoying your house more. Location wise - if you go with moving it upstairs, you might want to use the bedroom over the current kitchen for ease of plumbing as they will save money in the long run. If you keep it downstairs then you could look at moving the kitchen to the end so you have garden views and put the bathroom at the back of the old kitchen. If you could then squeeze at least a wc upstairs out of the smaller room (at the entrance so you don't cut up much of the bedroom) then that could work for having a wc in the night....See Moresiobhanmcgee90
