Floating furniture or against the wall?

Now i know this will depend on the size of the room but generally speaking should couches be away from the wall?

I’ve normally had our couch against the wall but i’m decorating and have placed the couch away from the wall and i actually think it looks good!

What’s your thoughts on this? will it make a room feel bigger or smaller?

Hi, It looks like you already have a dark wood feature mirror in that room so have you thought about having matching shelves in the same colour? Chunky floating ones would look nice to hold towels on etc. If you wanted to go even further, then you could have the wall built out so that the shelving was recessed into the wall with little lights above each shelf - but of course it's a lot more work & money!

By having the basin and toilet on the wall together, which ever option you choose you create 'dead space' behind the door, yes you can you it for a towel ring next to the sink. However, if you move the basin to the wall behind the door and separate it from the toilet entirely, you make the room look larger as there are bigger spaces between the items ( toilet, bath, sink, shower ). I too would turn the door to swing it towards the shower as you will then see a bigger space when you walk in! First pic is of the amended plan, the second is how you have it at the moment. As you see in the first pic, it is more spacious and has room to walk around, the entrance to the bathroom looks wider and you don't create a corridor effect into it.

I'm not sure of your dimensions but have you considered the largest sofa facing the wallpapered wall so it is the back of the sofa you see when entering the room? A slimline sofa table behind could provide a place for candles, books a place for keys etc (not sure how much of a hallway you have). See some pics below to show what i mean. The other sofa could either go under the window or the opposite wall. By placing the tv on a cabinet you wouldn't have to spoil your lovely paper and the damage to the white current tv wall could be covered by shelving/picture or other artwork. As I said it might be too tight for space but it could be a solution to what can sometimes feel like a waiting room space when only option is to place seating around the walls. Good luck!

Some great comments so thanks guys. I adore hanging plants so I'll make sure to put a few in the kitchen, especially around the door. I plan on having wall shelves with plants on, too. I think the outdoor mirror seems like a great idea, we can reflect the neighbours plants from their garden (well, hopefully, funny angled wall outside)! We've put a long table in the kitchen so far, with a bench on one side and four chairs on the other (against the wall). This allows the light from the doors to run down the table. Surprisingly the flat is very bright despite fewer windows and the lower floor being lower-ground almost basement. I think I'll keep the bedroom downstairs for now as it's not a room I spend a lot of time in. For me the bedroom is purely a sleeping zone.

Mine is about 6” away from the wall, but any further out and it would block the flow of the room to get to the kitchen. I think it just depends how much space you have.
