Any ideas how I could hide/disguise this boiler flue please?

I know it can’t be covered because of the fumes but it’s such an eyesore. Unfortunately, we can’t move it either. I’ve looked online for a trellis planter to stand in front but none are tall enough. Any advice would be appreciated.

I think your trellis planter is a good idea. Buy a big planter tub, add trellis to the top of the flue height and buy something like a Clematis climbing plant which is also colouful when in flower.

Nice idea. I was looking for a ready made trellis planter but you’re right, I could just add the trellis myself to get the height I want. Thank you

What a great room! Those French doors with a view of the garden should definitely be the focal point, they are truly stunning and they are framing perfectly the garden which will look great when it's done! What I would start doing is to remove the carpet, you might already have some original wood floors under there but if not I think it could be worth investing in that. The heater is also bugging me... Maybe you could replace it or hide it behind a wooden case with similar paneling to the doors. Then I would remove the two low cupboards which make that side look a bit heavy and I suspect are not practical anyway. For the colours I would get rid of the wallpaper, repaint everything white including the ceiling and then you can start adding really subtle colours. For example I would perhaps paint the lower part of the walls (where your wallpaper is now) in a very light grey which will give a modern touch whilst not denaturing the heritage of the room. I really like the darker colour that is on some edges of the paneling of the doors and at the border with the ceiling so I would maybe choose a different colour but keep that concept which really draws attention to the original features. I would personally not add any new ones as suggested above as your room doesn't need it, it already has lots of character, Then for the layout you could, to accentuate the French doors as focal point, place two identical sofas facing each other with the space between them leading to the Frencg doors if you see what I mean. Then the rest is just accessorizing: a nice rug, some side tables and maybe a bigger pedestal-type table in front of the French doors with a big flower bouquet on top. You could choose as an accent colour (for accessories like cushions) something similar to the darker colour you chose to highlight the original features, this will tie it all in. Hi - in response to Carol's comment, I attach a photo of what we've done so far. We had the power company come in and move the meter down slightly (that was the bit on the left in the original photo above) and put it onto a smaller backplate for us. Then we had our electrician in to put in a new fusebox. Then we had our carpenter in to make a small box picking up the moulding on the inside front door, which also matches the doors leading off the hallway. We had the plasterer in to make good the area. So far that's where we are as we don't want to paint until we do the whole hallway, and first we need to change the radiator from the old flat panel one to something more in keeping with the property. I particularly resonated with Jonathan's comment above, with the thought that the eye wants to 'read' the ceiling and floor details...we felt a big box going across the whole top of the front door would feel a little 'top heavy' - as we came down the stairs and as you entered the hallway from the kitchen. We are pleased that the footprint of the whole thing was massively reduced. It turns out to be a handy little place to stash a torch as well. Thanks for everyone's comments - it was very much appreciated. Maybe I can send a photo of the final final result once decorated!

We have a neighbour's oil tank and another neighbour's boiler room door in our courtyard, which obviously need to be accessed, but are unsightly, so we have long planters with trellises attached, which we put wheels on (two of which you can lock to stop it from rolling around). We have grown evergreen honeysuckle on the trellis, which is relatively fast growing but has the most gorgeous scent in the summer. A bit like this

If its a balanced flue it does not need combustion air, but it will get hot so it needs to ventilate from and to the room. Make sure you continue to have access to all of the controls. and if you need maintenance or replacement of the boiler make sure the 'kitchen unit' is demountable and re-mountable.

You could also try painting the pipe. It looks as though you have a pebbledashed wall. I wouldn't suggest painting the actual wall but if you could find a pebbly brown/grey colour and paint the pipe itself and maybe the cage, then with the planter and trellis I think that it would pretty much disappear.
