Ideas for a tiny garden
Comments (52)Personally I think the grass, yellow bricks and the fence are a bit too uninspiring. How about trying to break it up a bit - thin beds with climbers against fence and extra beds / pots / paths to add different levels. Think of cakes on a cake stand, the more levels, the better it looks. Red cedar slatted fence to replace the existing, trailing plants over the walls. Talk to a good gardener to talk about the right plants for their position and also consider doing a watering system to make it super low maintenance (they don't cost the earth). Good luck with it - post some photos of the project!...See Moreneed help with a colour scheme for my back garden (not plants)
Comments (1)What type of garden are you looking for? Contemporary or vintage, courtyard!! Pictures to start with then we can build on that. all depends on what look and feel you want....See MoreGarden - child friendly ideas
Comments (6)I think you have a nice little garden and it is not too big to keep an eye on little ones playing. Firstly make sure your gate and fence at the end is secure...speaking from experience! Both my boys managed to get out and run away when small... I too would keep / renovate the decking (you can get some good decking paint these days that would make it look like new) making sure there are no splintered areas. It would be nice to park the pram in the shade for baby's sleep for now, maybe consider adding a sandpit to the side opposite the flower bed later on? Kids always love that. I would also repaint the walls all round, train some nice rose bushes or climbing plants up the wall from your raised bed. Alternatively use this to grow food, kids love helping with this. Then I would do a grass area, just a few strips of turf would do, in the middle, to soften it up and provide more interest and texture. Then perhaps a path down to the back gate and keep a couple of paving slabs by the gate for ease of access. You could even use wildflower turf rather than grass! Doesn't need mowing, just strimming back once a year, plus it provides easy flowers that will grow and self seed on any soil and pollinators love it! Lastly, its hard to see in picture if that is a shed at the bottom by the gate? If it is, keep it, you will need somewhere to store kids garden toys in the future, believe me!! Hope this helps x...See MoreGarden Design ideas for a medium sized garden
Comments (13)Ok, it’s been a little while since we left off on the garden project, however as we’re approaching spring we’re keen to get the space cleaned up for spring. To open up the space we’ve removed the middle two bar fence and relocated the beech hedging to the screen the remaining fencing. The aim being to create more privacy and blend into the landscape behind. To add security we was thinking of adding gravel and rockery / water feature (not pond) to the righthand side near the gate. Opposite create a gravel area for the stone bench and dot a few ball shrubs and a Victorian lamp for interest. Uplighter’s will be used to illuminate the hedge. In the main section of the garden add one or two trees on the section on the righthand side to create some privacy from the neighbours line of sight into the bench area. Thereafter add more ball shrubs, lupine and foxgloves to create height. Apply a horizontal slat fence (painted a muted sage green) to tidy up the bad side of the existing fence. All borders will be edged with a slim red brick to match the house and make it easier for moving. Finally to mask the shed, introduce some rose bushes and lavender....See MorePaul W
