Opinion on Flush mount recessed Hob cut out in Quartz Worktop please
Hi, We’ve had new quartz worktops fitted and they recessed the hob flush for us, corners to me look a bit iffy, one has a slight overcut they admitted should’t be there but said others are normal, it was suggested a lighter silicone to match worktop would disguise cutting but after a friend has just seen it he thinks it’s not been cut correctly
Does anyone have any close ups of what a cut out for a recessed hob should look like please or is my one pretty normal?
Also noticed when cleaning off their overspill of silicone the corners flex a little bit and looking from underneath the hob corners aren’t supported, looks like at each corner a larger radius has been cut nearly all the way through with no lip left (photo not the best) is this normal does anyone think?

10 months ago- Thanks for reply, In theory flush mounting is a recognised way, this is what I supplied installer, I know what you mean though about getting the same company to redo it

Comments (16)Unless you like to cook a lot of fry-up's I think a fairly powerful extractor fan should still be effective even when set back a bit. If you really want to position it over the hob you could have a contractor build in a robust boxed in false wall onto which you could have a normal 60 or 50cm wide extractor hood mounted. It would have to be anchored well to support the weight, the electrician would need to allow more power cable and a longer flue but it shouldn't be all that expensive or difficult to do. Comments (6)Hi Bry R! Choosing a kitchen worktop is a very personal choice where a couple of factors come into play. You will need to consider and prioritise: budget, look/feel, durability, usage/sensitivity. Leaving budget out for a second we reviewed your 3 materials Quartz, laminate and concrete for you: Quartz - Beautiful stone that can be used anywhere, even near the hob and sink. On the durability side, it is a very tough stone ( especially in composite form) that is more durable than many other natural stones. Also potential scratches can be sanded out if needed! Very easy to maintain. Concrete - It looks amazing. But in our opinion, a kitchen is more practical than just an aesthetic feature… but this is very personal! Concrete is more sensitive to staining of food and water. So either you need to use a food-grade sealer, get out the chopping board, or order takeaway! Concrete can also be sensitive to scratching. Last but not least given that it is heavy, you might need to rethink about your cabinetry for reinforcement. Laminate - Very flexible and can be used for all surfaces. Can also mimic any natural materials you like ( even concrete!). It is very sensitive to heat and you cannot test your vegetable cutting on it! But apart from that it is pretty resistant to stains and chemicals. Its cost even allows you to change the look of your kitchen with just changing the worktop in couple of years time, without breaking the bank. If your budget stretches it, we would advise the quartz unless you love the look of concrete and you don’t mind giving a bit more care and love to this stunning beauty in your home! Comments (42)Mine was an 800 before I removed the glass - the main fan section is smaller of course so I presume that it’s the actual canopy that makes the difference ie if the extractor canopy is 800 with an 800 hob then most of the steam that rises, should hit the top of the canopy and be drawn towards the extractor. Even though we removed the glass on ours, it will be set into a suspended wood canopy so in effect, the steam should do the same thing. I’m told induction hobs are super steamy, ha ha. It looks how I thought it should and the join is where my hob will be fitted (hopefully this afternoon) so not noticeable at all. 10 months agoI’d be disappointed with that. Even with flush mounting the hob, the edges should at least be straight just like the exposed edges on an under mount sink. I’ve got the same worktop although my hob is fitted to sit on top of it - no exposed edges.

10 months agoOkay, depending on whether this was done by a large company like Wrens or Howdens or a small independant, you must write to the Chief Executive/Managing Director pointing out the poor quality installation, especially considering how much it must have cost. Be polite but firm, send plenty of photos and ask for a refund. Don’t bother with Customer Service or the fitters, as they don’t really have any power. Whenever I have issues with businesses that is what I do and it is always resolved. My most recent one was problems with our bin collections. Ringing got me nowhere so I emailed the Chief Executive of the council. The next day a man from the council was on my doorstep to see what the problem was! He also visited the next 2 weeks to ensure our bins were properly collected. Throughout I was polite. It really isn’t that difficult to complaint.
