Jade green bathroom suite...

Anyone know what tiles/colours go with 1950s jade green bathroom suite?

Also: am putting in a shower - is there a way to get the shower tray to match the green of the bath, basin, loo etc? Tiles? Another type of surface that I can colour match?

Design ideas welcome

I love coloured bathroom suites and your sounds very dramatic. Please post a picture as I don’t think I have ever seen a jade green bathroom.

As far as styling I think you need to decide if you are trying to drive the opulence or ground the green. Pictures would help people form an opinion.

And consider if you can have a wet room style shower which means you only need to find a floor tile you like rather than having to match a shower tray with the Jade bath

Hi!

I think Jonathan is right - it would be good to see the colour of the suite (and whether is has faded in colour over time) to better suggest tiles but it's a great one to have fun with.

You could try and match the colour of the tiles to the bathroom pieces (but this will be a case of trial and error - ordering a few samples and seeing how they look next to the loo/basin)

Hi Paula, why don't we try and base the design from the items that you don't like: green floor and magnolia basin and toilet. You could paint the walls in two colours, splitting them in an horizontal way (see inspiration picture attached). The bottom part could be a similar green to the floor and the top part a magnolia like the sanitary ware. You can also paint the radiator in the green colour like the walls. I would stop the green like 15/20 cm above the top of your sink to create a kind of splash back effect. You can then add pictures on the walls to make it more cosy. Ceiling painted in the magnolia colour and skirting too. This is the cheapest solution I could think of... Good luck!

The actual bathroom is nice, but sorry to say it’s all your clutter that is the problem. Sorry to be Honest! You need enclosed storage to hide everything away. A mirrored wall cupboard above the sink would be a start, and then another floor cupboard in place of the metal unit. Also get rid of the toilet mat, they are unhygienic and old fashioned. Duck egg is a lovely colour to go with your beige bathroom, so if you want to carry on the theme get some nice towels either in duck egg or white. Get rid of the pink. When that is all done, you can dress the room with pot plants, either real or faux, and some nice hand wash on the sink. Here’s a few ideas for storage. If budget is tight, buy an old cupboard from a charity shop and paint it either white or match it with the tiling or a colour from the smaller tiles.

This might sound a bit oddball but how about a vintage tall corner cabinet for storing towels, bottles, etc. Just think that if you went with a small cabinet you’d have the same issues that you’re having now. There are lots of styles which you can pick up second hand for next to nothing and you could paint or varnish to how you want (this is just an example: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rustic-Tall-Corner-Cabinet-Shabby-Chic/253999560281?hash=item3b238db659:g:dasAAOSwRhFbo1mG ). I initially thought of wallpaper but think it will look too busy all over, how about getting a sample and putting into a frame for artwork. I saw this pattern (see pics) and thought it would look great with your decor, thinks it’s called Flying ducks by Mulberry. Also added a pic with idea for mirror over the sink. I think you could either embrace it and go for a palette of 'nude' colours (peach, pink, beige etc) and thow in some black or try to play it down. Charcoal may be a good place to start or a similar dark neutral such as Downpipe.

I used to have a sage green bathroom suite with sage green and pink flowery tiles. Ghastly and I couldn’t wait to have it changed for white. Peace was restored once again……….

I don't have a photo atm but this is the colour (photo off diff bathroom from internet). Have put floorplan also - weird design so can have a bit of fun!

I'd love ideas for decor and also what I can do to make shower tray to match (or not).

I think I’d go for a retro feel (though on trend!) with terrazzo and stacked tiles for the shower

I would tile the shower floor as J said, not sure you’d get a tray to fit anyway

can the bath be turned so it’s against the wall?

That’s a super big bathroom. Given it is actually the size of a bedroom you might consider if it’s worth relocating the bathroom in order to gain a bedroom.

Separately I think you could choose a vintage feel with metro tiles in a green and black or a cream and green combination. But given the size of the space and the many windows you could consider a black marble tile with lots of gold/brass accents. You could consider a natural theme and choose wood and limestone…… but my preferred choice would be an eclectic mix of marble that includes some striking green and soft green too.

Hi - I'm probably not going to tile the whole area - it's in scotland so needs to feel warm - so wood or carpet on floor - and tiles on wall of shower and probably floor of shower (though I'm wondering if a shower tray can be cut to fit). ...I have to say that I personally don't like the stacked (vertical) slim tiles - and I don't want to do anything that will go out of fashion - so it needs to be something that is sort of classic but warm-feeling (hence why I like the pinks over doing more blues/green)...does anyone know about cladding a wall in wood? Is there a recommended type of wood? And does anyone know if there's a surface paint/effect that I could use on shower floor to save tiling (I was in france recently and the floor of the shower was a bit like paint with sand in it)...this would be one way to get a colour match so when you enter bathroom the suite looks the same... food for thought anyway...keep the iedas coming - no idea is a bad idea! Many thanks! ( @minnie101 bath not against all as there's a nice view out of the window and we don't need all that space in the middle of the room; basin is also closer to WC in real life - wrong on plan).

Hi @jonathan - thanks for taking the time to do that - just need ideas for colours and materials though please - layout is not changing as is already designed with many factors in mind. (there is already mirror above basin as basin is slightly wrong on plan to where it actually sits - nearer the WC with wall (not window) above).

In terms of the shower floor you can use microcement or tadelakt which are waterproof materials. I don’t know much about microcement but tadelakt for that area could work out pretty dear with the plastering, sealing and waxing process with the drying times between each process. There are loads of colours available for tadelakt. It is a specialist trade though. I’m not aware of any paints that would work.

You could look at LVT for the floor, it’s warmer and softer than tiles. There are also a lot of bathroom rugs around

great idea @minnie101 - thank you - I LOVE those finished - yes very expensive I know.... hmmm wil have a think... perhaps what we saved on the green suite could go on the plaster?!

I remember that colour. I’m old 🤣. They did indeed have black square 4” tiles on the walls.

If you don’t want to tiles the walls look at Encore by Bushboard as a wall panel. Not the cheapest range but the best.

ha yes! you have a point! ....I guess all I was saying was I don't fancy the vertical tiles is all. ...just want it to be fun, colourful - and I do believe old thing can be timeless in a different setting (we're obvs not having the 1950s curtains and carpet which makes a hell of a difference)

yes I've looked into these guys and will enquire further... (The jade green suite was my granny's and I think it's funky so want to keep it)
