Bedroom with no direct window

Hi all,
I am not sure if this is the right place for this question, so please feel free to move it to the right sub forum.
We would like to renovate the ensuite bathroom and we are wondering if anyone could tell us if what we want do is legally possible.
The current bedroom has two velux windows, one for the bathroom and one for halfway of the room next to the bathroom. We are thinking on extending the bathroom to the hallway so there will be "no window on the room" although the room has access to the big bathroom (2,4 x 2m) with two velux windows. Find below the pictures so you can get an idea of the current shape of the room as well as the modification we want to make.
Could anyone tell us if this is legal from the building regulation point of view? We do not want to have any problem when it comes to sell the house in future.

Thanks Sarah for the quick response. Indeed, the room will have no Windows (both velux will be in the bathroom). I think this is no longer a good idea as I am decreasing the price of the house in future. Not really sure how to make use of that space....thanks for your help!

If you want a light excluding Roman blind, you will need to hang it on the wall rather than in the window recess, with a few inches extra width and length otherwise the light will show through at the edges. A patterned fabric would give the opportunity to choose wall colour, bed accessories, maybe a chair cushion etc in colours unified by the blind. Art or photos on the walls would soften the room making it look more personal.

Just a thought, what about putting the bed against the wall of the walk in wardrobe and you can still have your headboard, no need to change or move a radiator and the wife's side of the bed would be next to the wardrobe entrance. It's all a bit cramped by the looks of things and while you'll have your ensuite and your walkin wardrobe you'll still be walking into a box room. Another thought I had to to lose the bedside cabinets and increase the appearance of space would be in to have the bed side lights on the partition wall and the storage built into the stud wall with pull out shelves for those breakfast in bed moments and cups of tea. Change the door to open onto your landing as well!!! Good luck

I think some beautiful white voile for the day time, mounted on a very discreet ceiling mounted track, such as Silentgliss, which can be bent into the bay. I would then put a bay pole in front of this with whichever curtains go with your scheme, using a blackout lining. I would be careful not to have the curtains gathered too full though as you do not have a lot of space to the left of the window to pull them back. Although unconventional, to overcome this problem, you might want to consider having the curtains made to different widths, ie a shorter left curtain and a wider right curtain so that when they are closed they meet at the corner. On a flat window this would be very conspicuous, but your window is unusual.

I found the Dulux Visualator, or whatever it’s called, to be pretty useless. I used it once to visualise my old sitting room colour just to see how accurate it was. My walls were Dulux Elderflower so compared it on the Dulux online thingy and it was completely different!

Maybe not now, but certainly it may have met building reg when they were fitted in the past (around 2000) because I have the building completion certificate of the extension....to be honest none of the bedroom windows of my house meet the above regularion.... :(

You need windows with adequate openings so people can escape in case of a fire………

By looking at my existing windows, none of them meet the building regulations...are you saying that can't be considered a bedroom?

I think it applies to new windows? There are a lot of windows that wouldn’t pass now, but you don’t have to change them all. I’ve always had windows with large openings as the fear of being trapped with no way out terrifies me!

Yea, that's correct Shara, I forgot to mention it is a bungalow. The issue with the original question (room without window) still stands no matter whether it is or not a bungalow, right?
