Kitchen/Diner Plan
Comments (6)Jane - Thanks, I'll use my wife's Facebook to join the challenge. Ellie - Thank you, yes, it will be a decent size. Both views are good, the rear view is onto the garden (future problem) and the front view is onto a river and conservation area with protected trees. H A - Thanks, this is another idea I thought about but feel the utility would be better suited to the rear and onto the back garden. Another obstacle is that the rooms are on slightly different levels (bedroom 5 is about 4 inches lower than the large kitchen). I can make a feature out of the step but feel that kitchen units and worktops on different levels wouldn't look aesthetically pleaseng....See MoreKitchen design advice
Comments (3)Design number 3 doesn't have nowhere near as many units as the other 2, so if you're looking for storage I would omit this one. It's amazing what junk we all find to shove in a cupboard, and it's better hidden than on display. I don't like option 2 because it has straight corner base units which are a nuisance when you want to access the corners as you will be on your knees to find whatever is in there in the 'hidden' part. If you were to swap those to 900L shaped base units in each corner it would be much more workable and then of course you would have to fiddle around with the adjoining units as the size on the plan is slightly different. I like number 1 the most because you have taken advantage of the corner situations. I presume that is a pantry in the left hand corner and if so stick with that there as it offers so much storage even for larger items such as bread makers, toasters etc. If you could amend the 600mm drawer packs to be larger you will be far happier with that option. An 800mm is far better as a minimum size. Again you would have to jiggle what you already have but a 600 drawer pack is small inside. Not sure about the curve as they hold nothing inside them and cost a small fortune for the doors. Perhaps you have opted for that by the door so people don't catch themselves when walking into the room but your other ends are square so that makes it looks slightly odd. I can see it's a DIY plan and they have good reviews....See MoreKitchen diner knock through ideas?
Comments (8)Could this work? you could have a pantry cupboard instead and a pennisula island perhaps. l’ve changed your current kitchen window to a door and closed off access to the hall and put all the noisy appliances in the new front utility room with a big sink, fridge freezer, washing/drying appliances etc and a pantry cupboard. you could have a stable door into the kitchen from the utility for light and keeping the dog away when cooking…. I’ve reduced the french doors of the dining room for flow, opening into the hall rather than into the room. I've placed upright radiators on the available walls, you could put another at the top of the table....See MoreKitchen/diner - Knock through or side return
Comments (2)Your side extension sounds expensive at over £6k per square metre- I suspect that you wouldn’t recoup this in your resale. Also an extra 2m strip of room doesn’t equal an extra room so all you are doing is making a medium sized kitchen into one that’s big enough for an island. Consider if the space at the back could also be a dining room and understairs wc and if the kitchen would be better in the current dining room....See Morekatlucy
