Living room/kitchen -many ideas to decorate please
Comments (6)The sofas are quite domineering so I think you really need a very bright colour to detract from them slightly. I'd go for either a bright yellow or hot pink and team with white and grey. I've posted a pic from homesthetics as an idea. I'd get a really big piece of modern art above the sofa with yellow and black etc. This one is from art.co.uk as no idea of your style. You need some texture on the floor so a grey rug could work, I'd avoid an all yellow rug given the floor colour. I'd move the small bookcase and have a giant angle poise or similar lamp in either black or grey. Bright yellow patterned cushions on the sofa with a couple of plain grey and maybe even a throw. I would personally paint the kitchen cabinets grey and add yellow accessories and update the floor when you can change it. Maybe try a glass coffee table and add some accessories. Can you post some more pics of the room in light as its difficult to tell if the room would take all grey. I'd also flip the table so it's central with the window and add a big yellow bowl or similar. If you don't like yellow then just change the accent colour but I think it needs to be bright. If you want to go modern I would change the mirror, maybe something with a black frame to work with an accent colour....See MoreCity apartment wall decor ideas
Comments (8)Hello Molly, any of the above ideas would suit it simply depends on your tastes. If you put shelves up you will have to put stuff on them to make it feel right - if you have have many books or nick nacks then perhaps limit the shelving. Pictures are always great - they add interest and can add colour. Yasmina's feature wall is fantastic and super bold but you have to be comfortable with it. A wall of old mirrors can look fantastic - reflects light and movement from outside. Your clock looks lost I'm afraid - a wall of retro clocks on the other hand... I really like the colour of settee - anything can go with it and you can add a pop of colour with a cushion or two, rug, flowers etc. It seems that you are not sure what you would like, so I would suggest you start doing some research to find out what you are drawn to. Look on house at ALL styles. Look in interiors magazines and just start collecting a few ideas. You will be drawn to something - its just a matter of working out what it is - then building on it. At the moment the room is very minimal in terms of its contents - it might be that you don't like clutter at all and simply need a key standout piece placed correctly to add that wow factor. Hope this helps, Let us know how you get on. Lauren...See Moretoo greenish upstairs walls?? decoration ideas

Comments (4)First of all your room is lovely and I'm reluctant to suggest anything, as I love walnut and I love walnut with white. I can see that you would like to get a softer effect however, and I think you can do this with a relatively small amount of effort. First off - do you want to embrace the darkness of the dining area? If you want a clear separation between the two spaces you can achieve this by painting the dining area a different colour, which will have the effect of shortening the long appearance of the room and making the dining area more intimate and cosy. If this is your only eating space, though, you might find a dark colour a little oppressive during the day (personally I'd love it - my living room is dark green!). I wouldn't use a patterned wall paper in this space, as I'm struggling to decide which wall I would use as a feature wall. Papering a side wall might bring pull it in visually and make the space seem longer and narrower. Colour-wise I love indigo and brass/gold with walnut and a dark, blue-based colour will make the room seem intimate and expansive at the same time. Sometimes the wall with an extractor recess above a hob can look nice in a feature colour, but I can't really see yours from your photo. BUT you could pretty much leave the decor intact and bring some colour and texture in with soft furnishings and accessories. I like your blinds, perhaps you can soften them and add a feature at the dining room end by adding floor length curtains? Maybe just fixed for show. You could stand your dining suite on a flat weave rug and add a large mirror to one wall to reflect the light around the room. Curtains and/or rug would allow you to use some pattern. Alternatively swap out your blinds for softer looking fabric roman blinds. Add the odd accessory with warm metals or bright colour. Suggestion above. Hope this helps a bit :)...See Moresiobhanmcgee90
