Help! How would you furnish this living room.
Comments (6)If you're adding bar stools would it not be tempting to have the tv where they do so you can view from both rooms?! Rather than the fire, have the tv over a narrow console which is a bit more typical for a Hallway. You could paint the wall a shade of grey (keep others light) to disguise the tv and add accessories. A projector could potentially be an option on that wall (??). Or slightly more unusual options...I can't see what the breakfast bar is like but maybe something bespoke built against the dishwasher or even wrapping round the pillar! Or go with your option with a small sofa, you could then add a console behind to create a hallway to the bedroom but it leaves it quite tight for a coffee table and tv unit (plus back of tv exposed if you use the balconŷ). It would be good if you had exact measurements from wall to pillar etc...See MoreHow would you furnish this awkward living room/dining room/kitchen
Comments (7)Hi. Personally I'd put a slatted room divider (just the unit width) at the end of the sink run to allow light and zone the kitchen area slightly. (I will try and find a picture showing the same in a similar kitchen). Assuming the fridge isn't staying, I'd just buy a white one so it blends in, maybe like a retro style one as they look a bit prettier. I'd also opt for a round table. You could paint the wall (and rad) behind the table a darker/warmer colour and add art. Hang the light low over the table to zone it and maybe have a mirror or mirror tiles on the left wall. You could also consider acrylic chairs as they don't visually fill the space. I'd go for a wider curtain pole to maximise light coming in. Sofa, choose something on legs with narrow arms, being able to see the floor will make the room bigger and maximise seating. I also wouldn't choose anything dark as it could take over the room, just use dark/warm colours for cushions and throw if wanted. There are plug in wall lights around which won't take up any floor space. I don't know if you need storage but you should be able to fit a sideboard between the dining and living area? Re shopping suggestions, you don't have any ideabooks set up so could you give people an idea of styles and colours you like?...See MoreHow would you set up this room for living/dining space?
Comments (6)It's a lovely room. Are you buying new furniture or trying to make your existing furniture work because an L shaped sofa might work well in the space and allow for two separate zones. Also, how many people do you need seating for? Can you get away with a small dining table for every day that extends for visitors?...See MoreHelp! How would you brighten this East-facing living room?!
Comments (26)Hi Sophie I think your room is a lovely size with great windows - they need some curtains to soften that end of the room I would suggest. I particularly like your floor which is a warm colour. My choice would be to pick up the tones in the floor and use a buttermilk colour on the walls - something like Travertine mid from Little Green on the walls, travertine light on the ceiling and Travertine on the woodwork. If you banish the greyish rug and look for something either with deep pink or burnt orange colours in a pattern and pick that up in a pattern on curtains and some of the cushions together with a lime green and an aqua blue to add some freshness. I agree bigger plants and find a stand for a big plant. Lighting - if you can access the ceiling more downlighters would be great. You could change them all to dimmable and ensure they are warm light. I also use up free standing lighters. The one in the photo has three brightness settings and is great. If you repeat you bookcase on the other side of you door you could use LED light strips above those. We have some under and above kitchen wall cupboards which are on all day in winter in our east facing kitchen. They give a lovely warm glow. Carefully chosen paintings/prints to pick up colour from the sofa and rug and cushions. Have fun....See MorePatricia Colwell Consulting
