Please help me finish the kitchen!
Comments (24)Whatever you decide to do with that side wall, I would suggest that you keep the idea of an "art gallery" in mind. The furnishings/accessories you currently have in the room are strongly suggestive of this theme. Even your kitchen is very "artsy". For the buffet/bar, I would suggest three ideas. The first picture is of a mid-century modern console. If you are into the eclectic idea, some wood would bring some warmth to the space while at the same time keeping with the modern vibe. The second picture stays very closely with what you already have in the room - black, sleek, modern but also brings in a bit of wood for warmth. The third picture goes in an even more eclectic direction with a very ornate console painted in a gloss black. All three ideas would work so it's really up to your personal taste. For the shelves above the bar/buffet, I would go with all glass as in the fourth picture. I would try to keep most of the barware in clear glass so that the items on the shelf will still have a "lightness" to them. Keep books, etc. in the drawers in the console. Liquor could be arranged on a mirrored tray on the console itself. Keep clutter to a minimum. I'd still like to see some art on that wall, too. Another idea would be the last photo, which is my least favorite, but, again, its a matter of preference. Replace the green portion of the wall with red and I would do the wooden cabinetry in black and the shelf in glass. One more idea, to bring the red into the lounge area, consider a red rug with a sculpted design to fit under the entire sofa area. Any chance we could see a pic with the sofa in the middle of the room? [houzz=] [houzz=] [houzz=] [houzz=] [houzz=]...See MoreHelp with finishing new kitchen diner
Comments (18)I would definitely keep the rug, it adds a little pop of colour and lifts the neutral colour scheme, but I wouldn't go too bold and I wouldn't conceal the windows because it makes the room so lovely and light If it were me, I would add splashes of colour here and there accessorising with similar turquoise'y blue/orange'y red colours to pick out those in the rug and dot around some large glass containers with fruit in (edible art!!). A large mirror on the wall would look lovely with some sconces either side, on which you could sit some beautiful vibrantly coloured orchids/candles/vases etc. Then perhaps some shelves above the cupboard by the door with some brightly coloured glassware/jugs. You said you have some young children, what about framing some of their little pictures and putting them up under the shelves? I did something similar in my kitchen and it livens it up a bit (see below) I would also think about perhaps replacing the shade on the standard lamp with something to pick up with the rug, or perhaps match it to the ceiling one Have fun!...See MoreHand finished kitchen or pre finished.
Comments (3)I think if you cost it out you will find that hand painting on site will bring your kitchens into a higher price point. There is also the hassle factor for the client as it will delay getting a completed project. There is also hassle for you- finding trades in different parts of the country who can consistently finish your kitchens as you would like them finished. In my humble opinion there is a price threshold where buyers want more than quality, they want a nationally recognized premium brand name and reputation and you might be better keeping your current workshop finished kitchen option but also offering a primer only option and giving the client the option of getting their own painter....See MoreHurrah! Comments (27)I think you're right about the too much wood thing. Since you'll get a wooden table too. The school type stools look very industrial and not very inviting to me. I like the leather ones and would need to sit on the Bertoia ones to feel how comfortable they are. It also depends on which dining chairs you'll pick. Here are black rattan ones...See MoreDytecture
