What determines wether customers want the hardwood gates stained or left to go grey?

Is staining older pine floorboards a dark stain, a no no?
Comments (5)Hi both - so sorry but this is a really old post (at least a year ago now! Lol) so we have already finished all the flooring. We ended up wimping out after sanding the kitchen and dining room and ended up putting wood flooring down. The wood was just too soft and we would have needed to fill in all the gaps as there was a draft through to the ground. However we did paint the main bedroom floor in white which I LOVE. Except .. on all the instructions I read online, no one mentioned priming with a knot blocker so I have to go over it all again as they are showing through and it looks grubby...See MoreStained Wood
Comments (9)Hello, To be honest I really like your hallway. Probably you are tired of the overall look but somehow those colours work very well together giving a traditional style to your space. Of course you can go for white and light colour but first you should define your favourite style you would like your hallway to feature, even create a moodboard and than make decisions! You could consider painting the skirting and doors in white but you could still leave the front door in the same colour as your staircase, that could be a solution too. Comments (33)We want to get in there and give it some much needed character. Our wall paneling would really set that off with a touch of class. The colour of the panels could be Like the attachments. Comments (4)Softwood gates should be treated a minimum of once a year. This is to help prevent water/ moisture entering the gate and "blowing" the cladded panels. Once this happens, you will struggle to open and close the gate (however, given time, they will go back to correct size). As for a brand to use, for softwood gates we would recommend Sadolin. Good all round protection for water and UV. Oak posts are easier to maintain and you could treat them with the same. Sadolin do do a clear stain which maybe worth looking into.
