Please can anyone help with a Design Plan for our Bedroom?
Comments (12)Hi Claire, Do the doors actually open inwards into the room? How about considering place the bed in the center of the room facing the doors? You would disguise the back of the bed with a thin console table which have some dressing style storage (jewelry etc) and can hold some tall flowers and candles to set the mood on entering. There's lots of ways you can add the luxury feel you are looking but this would create real impact and make the bed the real feature of the space. If budget allows I would hang lights from the ceiling ad beside lights and layer up on dressing for an even more luxurious feel. I have attached one of my clients bedroom design (single room re-design package) to show you the hanging lighting idea - if this isn't possible then a well placed small chandelier style light would have a great effect on the space. I hope this helps and I look forward to seeing the finished room - it will look stunning I am sure! all the best, Gina...See MoreOpen plan or semi open plan? Floor plan / furniture layout help please
Comments (5)Hi all, Thank you for your comments; I appreciate them! Natasha - the units you have suggested are very much what I had in mind. We will have a shaker kitchen and the media unit would also be shaker style and would have 4-6 cupboards with the TV in the middle with book shelves either side. Part of the reason we kept a partial wall was to make the space more usable. I can’t envision how the fully open plan room will be able to meet all our needs, but I am open to ideas! I feel that open plan would be more impressive, but potentially less usable. With regards to the doors. I do plan to reverse the doors both into the kitchen and family room part, but couldn’t work out how to do it on the app I used for the floor plan. It is a 1920s house and we have the original doors which we are planning to keep. We are also keeping a lot of floor space as when the table is not extended, we still have young children with lots of Lego and trains etc. I plan for these to be hidden in the cupboards at bedtime. J - we haven’t installed the kitchen but we have ordered it and paid a big deposit. Some of the units are bespoke/irregular sizes and I don’t think we would be willing to change this. I have attached a photo of our rendered kitchen plan. Thanks again for your comments. It is good to have other people’s opinions and ideas....See MoreHelp with Floor Plan ideas please!
Comments (11)I agree yet disagree about the "living in the house first".. If you already know you want to open up areas, do it! Bigger structural changes are messy. And 'Policies delayed are policies denied'. Especially with kids, jobs, etc. Plus you want to paint and do floors, it feels a lot more satisfying knowing it can stay that way for years to come. But do make a proper layout, planning is one of if not the most important part of a build/makeover. Sidenote: I'm so very very glad we did the bigger part of the structural work (removing walls, insulation the entire home, new wiring, new plumbing, moving doorways, taking out a chimney breast, changing windows, bathroom from scratch, etc) before moving in. This would not have been realistic afterwards (home is 72 m2 plus scullery). Still far from finished, just about everything that needs to be done are finishes/paintjobs/smaller projects....See MoreRenovating Main Floor - Layout Ideas Needed Please
Comments (0)We have just purchased a house and will be renovating the main floor before we move in with 2 goals in mind: 1. Make it more open plan (We are American don't love the "door on every room" design) 2. Move the lounge to the back of the house because the house has a lovely garden that we want to be able to see from the windows. The house fronts quite close to the street so I really want some privacy. Requirements for the end result include: 1. Kitchen - ideally at the back of the house as it is quite the hub of activity with 2 adults, 2 teenagers and 2 dogs (with Pantry that I am thinking of putting under the stairs and room for an American fridge) 2. Lounge with TV - situated at the back of the house with windows to garden (garden is east facing) 3. WC 4. Space for laundry (in my tentative design, I have put this in the WC) 5. Dining area - preferable to fit a 6 seat table with enough room around to extend for family gatherings (someday again soon, I hope!) 6. Having a utility area with door to the garden (muddy dog feet...) would be a bonus but I don't see how I can make that happen. We do have a detached garage along the kitchen wall with a Everything else is pretty optional. I added an office because the extra room would be good as a bedroom backup for guests visiting from America. I'd like to avoid an extension purely because of cost. Also, I don't really think we need one given that someday in the not too distant future our kids will move out. Storage is important to me as I hate clutter. We are also planning to add a front porch for the clothes and shoes, etc. I'd consider moving the stairs if I could figure out how to make that work as I don't particularly love walking in the house and running right into them. I am sharing the current floorplan and my first pass renovation floorplan. What am I missing? How could I do it better? Meeting with the architect next week and would love to be able to give him some good directions and starting ideas. Thank you all! CURRENT FLOORPLAN POTENTIAL FLOORPLAN...See MoreDalida D
