A Dynamic Family Home Transformation | Extension & Full Renovation

Recently completed project photographed earlier in the year by @snookphotograph . Cherry House is our own build, a renovated and extended family home in Canterbury.

The new facade is our take on a traditional local Kent Peg tile hung facade crossed with Tuile Vernissée (patterned and colorful glazed roof tiles) inspired by family holidays to Burgundy.

The bespoke glazed facade tiles were developed specifically for this project in close collaboration with @spicertiles . Hand made plain bullnose clay roof tiles were coated in a glaze then re-fired and hung in a vertical hanging tile arrangement.

The form of the extension is simple but the facade is super textural. The hand made tiles provides depth and deliberately imperfect quality that is then emphasised by the way the reflective glazed finish reflects light. A bullnose profile and a total of 6 colours were used to provide further patterning in cherry tree tones reminiscent of the old cherry orchard that once covered the area.

The kitchen uses IKEA base units with bespoke ply elements and fronts designed and made by @holte.studio in green and pink tones with oak veneer accents. The bullnose shaped island and handles are a subtle sufferance to the bullnose facade tiles.

The exposed steel work acts as a large object within the open space allowing the different functions to comfortably sit across both the existing house and new extension.

Round skylights contrast the rectangular space and add dynamic light and shadow to the space.
