Coming Soon - House Extension Canterbury

The striking brick wall is created with simple bricks, laid in an orthogonal
order but allowing each brick to slide of out plane to form the curve.

A single storey side and rear extension to a 1920’s detached home to provide a large kitchen, dining and family space, wc and utility space The new ‘L’ shaped space creates clearly defined spaces within and an elevated terrace that minimises the impact on the garden of the enlarged house.

The striking curved brick wall is the main design feature, it deconstructs the existing rear brick wall of the house as it slides out into the garden to create the extension, as if the extension has been ‘pulled out’ from the rear of the house.

The single curved wall is a subtle reference to the art deco detailing within the existing house, whilst the stepping brickwork adds a striking contemporary detail. The design uses a simple brick laid in an orthogonal order but allowing each brick to slide out of plane to form the curve and slowly reveal a glazed finish to the brick which further emphasises the curved form.
