Homerton #143

The property is just 2 doors away from our previous project Homerton #141, and the client was introduced to us by our previous client/ their neighbour.

As such the houses were almost identical; not mirrors as they would be if next door to one another, but near identical copies as they are next door but one. Again the focus of the brief was the upgrade of the existing kitchen, reconnecting this with the rest of the ground floor living accommodation, and providing a new open-plan kitchen & dining area.

The client had the benefit of seeing the execution of their neighbour's project, and was therefore able to use this direct reference to inform their design decisions, it also enables them to identify specific material & design changes to suit their needs & tastes (and also to simply create differentiation from their neighbour's project).

The result is a near identical layout, but with some subtle design changes (such as additional rooflight, backrest to dining bench, concealed breakfast station, material & colour changes) which really tailor the 2 projects both to the specific constraints of the house, but also to the needs & tastes of the clients.

The WC and separate laundry cupboard are located outside of the main open-plan kitchen/ dining space, within the existing hallway. Due to the property already having had an attic conversion carried out, greater separation of the laundry appliances was required to meet the relevant regulations relating to fire escape from the attic bedroom.

Our simple palette of materials and standard products are used throughout, but with subtle changes creating a solution that is carefully tailored to the client's specific tastes.
