The Magma Bed is a limited edition piece fabricated using translucent white Onyx stone. By digitally designing the form of the bed, 3D printed prototypes were able to be created to test the structural stability and the composition of the form. The Onyx is illuminated by lights placed internally within the stone bed surround. The illumination of the Onyx helps to emphasise the beauty of the patterns of the natural stone. It also increases the contrast between the dark steel metal horizontal bed platform and the light stone support, creating an interplay between the dense opaqueness of the bed platform and the translucency of the Onyx.
