The Crow's Nest, Brixham - Extension
Beacon House is now a very successful boutique hotel thanks to the energy, drive and dedication of Nigel and Amanda. The Crow's Nest is a fabulous, contemporary addition to this revived Victorian residence. Rather than playing it safely with pastiche, Nigel and Amanda decided to take a bolder and more imaginative step to create something more daring; the result of which is a triumph.
The treated horizontal softwood boarding, a modern material used in a traditional marine style, complements the ship-building history of Brixham. The timber-framed floor to ceiling corner glazing takes advantage of the spectacular views and frames the vista perfectly. Aluminium rainwater goods match those on the main building and will weather exceptionally well in the harsh coastal environment. The result is a successful and harmonious meeting of the traditional and modern.
