I have always said that open-plan looks nice if tidy (magazine standard). Yes, it's sociable when cooking etc. But I so much prefer broken-plan. Rooms appear to have more character & warmth. Families need there own space to re-charge there batteries.

I have not read all the comments but in this day and age especially if you have ever heard of Age Friendly and visitable homes the plans with all the stairs to divide the spaces is not a possibility. Age Friendly is for all ages so think about the mobility of youngsters and Mums with babies or people that aren’t mobile and those steps are a hazard. Even though I don’t have a physical problem just thinking towards the future these would not be viable layouts.
