9. Ace your open storage
This soft-hued, trad-style kitchen designed by Gemma Dudgeon has open storage almost everywhere, creating a cosy feel.
Glass-fronted wall cabinets hang over the blush-toned splashback, while a full-height shelving unit is home to the owners’ collection of pretty crockery and pots. Even the island offers an opportunity for showing off collections and is the perfect spot for a row of cookbooks and some oversized bowls.

8. Bring on a breakfast cupboard
Cabinets that contain toasters, coffee-makers, kettles, sometimes a microwave and more have boomed on Houzz over the past few years and this example, by Davonport, shows just how pleasing a feature it can be.
This one has bare wood drawers and shelving for teas, coffee, jams and spreads, and a marble worktop and splashback to house small appliances, with space to make toast and hot drinks.
In case you’re wondering about the colour, Davonport say it reflects “one of 2024 hottest trends, cashmere kitchens. Warm and inviting, cashmere colours are the perfect choice for kitchens, as the colour centres on evoking softness while not being too overpowering or striking.”

7. Dare to go dark
The immersive deep blue across walls and cabinets looks beautiful in this kitchen by Stedman Blower Architects, photographed by Mark Hardy.
The kitchen can take the dark shade, as it’s very light – just out of shot are large, wraparound glass doors. Paired with warm wood tones – especially in that panelled ceiling – the dark colour creates a really inviting space.

6. Revel in rustic style
A mix of painted cabinets, solid wood and (just out of shot) exposed brick helps to create a traditional look in this bespoke, handmade kitchen by Bathroom + Kitchen Eleven.
The colours – pale beige and olive green rather than cool greys – keep the mood warm and homely. Shaker cabinets evoke classic style, as do the mouldings and range cooker. The plate rack is a nice touch, along with the vintage pieces dotted about.

5. Favour fluted glass
We’re at the halfway mark now and it’s another dark-hued design, this time from Snug Kitchens. This one, though, is a forest green – a colour that’s come up again and again in photos uploaded to Houzz in the past year or so.
The standout feature here has to be that double-depth walk-in larder fronted by fluted glass doors. This style of glazing is hugely popular at the moment – and the sort of trend that hopefully becomes a classic feature, especially as it works across so many different styles. Here, it lends an Art Deco aesthetic.
“The decadent fluted glass panels draw you into the space,” the Snug team say, “obscuring the view into the larder, creating intrigue to see what is hidden behind the door.”

4. Try a trusted colour trio
In fourth place, it’s another dark green design, this one by John Lewis of Hungerford. In almost every kitchen with cabinetry in this shade, the green is combined with two other colours: wood (or brown tones, as in the barstools here) and white, usually pale walls and white worktops.
Often there will also be a touch of marble in the mix, too, as in the splashback here. It’s a combination that’s become a solid classic that transcends styles.

3. Double down on dark hues
At number three, this Inspired Design Kitchens scheme indicates that inky cabinetry combined with darker bare wood may be gaining ground as a look. The dark-stained oak used here is a deviation from the honey-coloured tones so popular at the moment in kitchens.
A shiny bronze splashback adds to the moody effect, and the colour scheme is broken up with white worktops and houseplants.

2. Work in a larder
In at number two is a larder cupboard to dream about. In fact, it’s rare to see a kitchen without some sort of pantry cabinet on Houzz these days, but this family-sized design by Sola Kitchens is especially pleasing.
Deep drawers make it easy to find ingredients and snacks, while shallow shelves ensure nothing gets lost at the back of the cupboard. They also make room for a good-sized spice rack attached to one door.
But could you keep your cupboard that tidy…?

1. Nudge in natural textures and tones
Ta-da… At number one in our most-saved kitchens is this design from Kitchen Ergonomics.
Again in a variation of forest green, this winning scheme is softened by the introduction of wicker seats on the bar stools and flashes of bare wood in a corresponding tone. Organic shapes in the form of a shell-shaped bowl, soft-edged sculptures and small plants are dotted throughout, too, building on the theme.

This beautifully bright sage and off-white design by Shere Kitchens packs in the storage in island drawers and full-height units. This makes it possible to dedicate walls (where cabinets might otherwise have gone) to decorative display or simply white space, giving the room a beautifully relaxing feel.
The shelf along the back wall is given over to display, while the space above the hob is uncluttered, especially with the built-in extractor painted to blend in with the walls.
