“Ian acted as our architect for an extension project back in 2001 and when we came to do a full renovation of our house 15 years later we were very happy to use his services once again. He is great to work with to realise your ambitions within your budget, get you over the line with the planning and building control authorities, find a contractor and then supervise the project through to completion. He has also helped a great deal with post completion and rectification issues and we are very happy with the results of our project with him. Ian is personable, thorough and professional and we have no hesitation in recommending him.”

“Bill at SBS helped us design and build a large kitchen diner extension onto our early Victorian home, He understood our requirements quickly and drafted our ideas into design drawings with ease. Bill led us through a very frustrating planning process with CWAC and his experience and patience kept us sane for the 12 months it took to gain permission (without any changes to design!). Bill then prepared and co ordinated the tender process with selected builders and we were happy to appoint the builders feeling confident we had selected builders that SBS have worked with many times previously. The design progression during the build was well controlled and Bill contributed significantly to overcome some hurdles that appeared and help make some further improvements to the design including some excellent detailing on the interior and garden. Overall we are very grateful to Bill for his excellent work in helping us extend our dream home surpassing our expectations”

“When we moved into our" tired" 1920s cottage we could see it had potential, needed updating and the current layout didn`t flow however we really didn`t know where to start. James had done an excellent job for me designing an extension on a previous property( Wychwood Cottage, Oakhill) so without hesitation we knew he was the right person to help us with this project too. He listened to what we wanted from our home and on visiting immediately saw the solutions. He split the work into 3 phases and advised us of the order to do. As we are living in the property this provided the benefit of concentrating on one area at time, thereby allowing better control of our budget and securing the finish of one phase before moving one to the next and enabling a break between phases to restore our sanity rather than having to live on a building site for months on end and the risk of going over budget and unable to complete any areas. The first 2 phases were reconfiguring the current cottage to make full use of the space available. The 3 rd phase is an optional extra : the addition of an orangery which would increase space and enhance the current cottage and wonderful views it affords. We have now completed phase 1 which has most definitely provided the Cottage with the "Wow " factor achieved by knocking the existing back room and kitchen into a light airy kitchen/ diner with a working area flexible dining area and retaining the log burner and chilling out area with sofas. Altering the position of the door to the previously messy utility room has enabled a shower room with toilet to be put in whilst till retaining laundry facility, storage and space for the dogs. A stable door through optimises light and views but provides the option that any mess can be hidden if necessary! It really is a lovely space and so flexible now - all our visitors are amazed at the difference and love the light and airy homely feel. W are about to embark on phase 2 which involves swapping a bedroom and family bathroom. The bathroom will then be above the utility room which also houses the boiler with the outcome of a larger 3rd bedroom and all the unsightly pipework at the back of the house will disappear as all water and waste will be on one side of the building. Thank you James your are a true inspiration!”

“During our time working with Curtis we found him to be dedicated, openminded, experimental and respectful of our ideas and needs” We found that Curtis was very flexible and able to meet with us at in the day or evenings at times that suited our busy schedules. Following his appointment, our first meeting with Curtis was based around him taking internal and external photographs of our property from different angles and measurements for his calculations. Our second meeting consisted of Curtis producing sketches of our property to explain the options we could have. At the same time he enquired what our life aspirations were and what the family wanted to get out of the development of our home. For example; What were our needs regarding space? What were our requirements regarding storage and appliances? What emotions we would like to have once the work is complete? The questioning was never too personal and very respectful. We knew what direction we wanted to go in but Curtis pushed us even further with great ideas there were sympathetic to the existing fabric of the property. What stood out most about Curtis' service was his willingness to want to learn from his client's ideas. We found this extremely helpful but also unexpected, It allowed us to really think about the big issues but also tackle those much smaller details that can be forgotten until it’s too late to rectify. This was clearly a way Curtis gained a better idea of our physical and emotional aspirations and it certainly worked. His enthusiasm to seek out every detail was fantastic and even though Curtis is young and gaining experience you could tell he was using every aspect of knowledge from his studies. He was extremely prompt with visits, emails, paperwork and general communication - we never felt alone and unsupported. Curtis also made the necessary applications to the local authority on our behalf which was a great help to us. Our third meet consisted of Curtis producing professional architectural drawings which for the first time gave us a better idea of what the property would look like with the new rear extension and new room to the basement. It provided us with a sense of excitement of how our home lives were going to change. The results exceeded our expectations and we were completely satisfied with the service. Curtis certainly fixed a long standing problem of turning our dark kitchen/dining area into a light, easy flowing contemporary hub. He made it one of his priorities to enquire what we wanted from textures and fabrics to the emotional vibe of the home. We found that his manner made us feel at ease from the start and nothing was ever too much for him. His dedication and pride to his craft would make any client feel at ease. Our young children comment on how happy and proud they are of their home and that in our opinion is a job done. We would without a shadow of a doubt recommend Curtis' services to anyone and have done. If asked why, we would confidently say because he is genuine and dedicated to his craft.”
