Wall paint advise

Hello,

I would appreciate your advice on choosing white wall paint for the living room and entryway that complements a bohemian decor style while providing an elegant atmosphere in a room. Ideally also wipeable in case the kids draw on it.

Can you suggest any specific brand and number? Also, I am confused about the different finishes, such as matt, eggshell, and emulsions. Could you please clarify this for me?

I use Dulux paints, so I'd recommend Dulux Easy Care in brilliant white matt. Emulsions are wall paints usually in matt or silk finishes. I've not used eggshell paints, but I think they're suitable for walls and woodwork. Eggshell is for woodwork, so suitable for doors, architrave and skirting boards. I’ve also used it on furniture and it’s a good washable finish.

Hi Shelley Your room looks lovely - very light and airy and I love the architectural details! I love using a slightly deeper colour on walls that have exquisite skirting boards and coving - I actually think it looks really good in the colour of the plaster! Alternatively if you want a lighter colour, a warm white or grey would look great too. I've put some pics below of the kind of effect I'm talking about with the slightly darker neutrals. Your best bet is to get some samples and paint them on big sheets of card *not the wall!*, place them in the room on different walls and see what they look like at different times of the day, that should give you a pretty accurate idea of what the whole effect will be once it's all done. Duck Green is very dark, so I’m not sure. It’s the sort of colour you would have to create a cosy bedroom or living room. Your kitchen looks quite dark, so may it make the room even darker? Of course it’s your home so if you love it, try it. However, I think a lovely olive green shade or pale sage green would look rather nice.

It looks like you all get the idea. There are no limits, apart from our imagination, to the configurations. I have no idea why they are called jib doors. Does anyone know? I do know from experience though that they work a treat. Many years ago I was visiting Abbotsford the home of Sir Walter Scott. I was lost in reverie taking in the contents of a lovely room when the wall moved and a woman appeared. I quite literally jumped out of my skin! She turned out to be a grand daughter of Sir Walter Scott who very kindly explained the door mechanism. I think she took secret pleasure in startling visitors!
