Help with our renovation - step free patio/decking
Comments (4)You can have decking butting up to ground level and level with the doors, as technically the ground level won't change and compromise the DPC. There should not be a problem with rats, unless you constantly drop food that would make it's way underneath the deck. You also have an air brick in the middle that I see, so nothing should be compromising that either. I'd consider digging more of the garden away and stepping down on to the patio level, it will look more spacious....See MoreSteps inside rear extension or steps down to garden instead?
Comments (20)Does anybody have photographs of steps down to rear extension? My plan is to have a side entrance into a large hallway with steps down to the rear extension. Not sure whether to knock the wall down also the create a inside balcony and maintain the Hallway ceiling height in to the extension. The extension would be living / kitchen / dining area. If anyone has any photographs of similar projects to help me visualise it, that would be wonderful. thank you!...See MoreSteps from dining room to lawn, or raised deck/patio and then steps?
Comments (3)My garden originally had a step down from the kitchen, onto wobbly concrete, then 2 steps up to the rest of the garden. We eventually decked the lower patio bringing it level with the kitchen door. Problem with decking is it isn’t long lived. Within 8 years it was starting to rot. However, there are some lovely hardwood decks that aren’t cheap but last much longer. Last year we removed the deck and laid paving level with the kitchen door with a drainage grill running by the house. It wasn’t cheap but I think it will outlive me! With yours, I think the 2nd option sounds good. I would raise the whole lot level with the dining room, create a nice big patio suitable for seating or a table and chairs, and then further on create nice wide steps going down to the lawn. This can be done with decking (budget option) or paving ( more expensive sandstone/porcelain). Your current layout isn’t ideal and very bitty. This is my little patio level with house then steps up....See Moregarden and patio help with 2 dogs
Comments (7)Hi Hannah, I may be a little biased, but Outdoor 15mm Brazilian Slate in Dark Grey would be my recomendation. Non porous so great for the dogs and it will look great. Is that quote just for materials? Looking at the size there you could do it with 1 or 2 of our project packs. They cover approx 17.78m2 and contain 3 tile sizes so you can lay patterns, or we do singular sized tiles. Even with 2 packs, you'd be talking less than half of your quoted price. We recommend sealing before and after laying. If you'd like to more about slate, check us out www.slateflooringdirect.co.uk. We deliver nationwide and are always happy to chat slate!
