Adding character! uPVC french doors
Hi,
We've just had french doors put in our recently moved kitchen but it seems a bit stark now.
Before we had a window seat and plants which had character and I was wondering what I could do to add it back!
We went with white uPVC as we're not going to be here forever and anything more expensive wasn't worth it. Not sure if I should paint them and the whole of the entrance? It's going to be a high traffic area with the kids going in and out.
We are going to add decking outside and have it as more of an outdoor room feels with plants so we can sit outside more often in the summer.
Any suggestions appreciated! After and before pics

The artwork do you mean on each side of the door on the inner wall? I've not thought about that! We do have artwork by the dining table and on the kitchen run so maybe some here would help and not just be a door way!
We have setting plaster in our bathroom and a lick green 5 in our lounge and love it there. The skirting is grey 7 I think which the whole room used to be until we changed it to a kitchen. We'll keep the skirting board the same colour so maybe a colour that works with that?

Comments (19)Not sure how it works in the UK but in France if you are changing the appearance of your house that is visible from the road, you need prior permission. This is to avoid people doing things that are completely out of keeping with the neighbourhood, whether rendering, paintwork, or windows. Here you would probably have to go with cream rendering and retain the tiling, in which case choose a colour for the front door that picks up or contrasts with the brick/rust colour. My own first priority for the outside would be to deal with the garden, which you are very lucky to have, to get things in before the winter. One idea would be to get rid of the tiny patch of grass and lay thick gravel (not attractive to cats) plus a retaining path, create a simple structure to hide your dustbins (and bikes?), and invest in a couple of huge pots with some permanent planting and spring bulbs....See MoreIdeas on improving Front Exterior without a Front Door please?

I have never seen my husband so impressed by an idea so much!! I have attached a couple more photos showing view of the garage from the front of the house along with the entrance gate itself into the property. I have also attached a copy of our floor plan. We would really appreciate your thoughts on what we could to with the garage and front exterior in terms of: Garage walls - What do you think about the brick work? Worth keeping, or should we clad? Garage roof - We currently have an unsightly metal sheet. We don’t want to fully rebuild but we’ve seen light weight roofing for garages which look like tiling. Any suggestions or thoughts on this? Front exterior - We’re looking to improve kerb appeal of the house from the front, any ideas welcome (cladding, paint, stone work?) Windows - these are the original single pane windows which unfortunately come with poor insulation. Any thoughts on what to do for those? Comments (32)To approximately equate the above analysis to the colours I sent you. Multiply the Value 8.08x10 = 80.8 Lightness and the Chroma x 5 = 2.95 in our colour space using LCh. So its approx 20 points lighter than Weimaraner & considerably closer to neutral....See MoreIsla Cherry

13 days agoAgree with Betty Boo about concentrating on greening up the outside view once you have sorted the decking etc. I would put a climber where the cream outside wall is, say a Climbing Hydrangea which self clings so won’t need tying in or any trellis. It’s quite a slow grower and easily cut back if needed. If you can leave a small soil border there to plant it in the ground it would be ideal, although you could choose a big pot. Pots are more maintenance as you will need to water and feed the plant. I can see you like plants so you’re halfway there! As it will be used a lot I wouldn’t clutter the area at all, just paint the plaster to connect with the rest of the room and finish off the flooring. I personally wouldn’t introduce any more colour on the walls.
