Drain detail

Can you please give some detail to this installation? Why do the rocks run perpendicular to the drain?is the drain custom made?

Hello Joy, thank you for your question. I am sorry for the late reply. I am currently working in Switzerland and have limited internet access.
The round cobbles are set in a sunburst pattern. To be more clear they radiate from the centre (please see attached photo).
The drain is custom made hand cut from Caithness Flag stone.

Rich tea biscuits, Gemma? For that kind of help I'd ask for at least some custard creams :)) To answer your query, Nick, I think white tile and grey grout look great. I tried to find a pic with some square tiles but didn't succeed - these days is subway tiles everywhere! How to achieve that... It would be great if Houzz team could find some skilled builders (wink, wink Gemma!) to come spend some time advising people. But I'm afraid all we've got so far are some (more or less) enthusiastic DIY-ers... Anyway, if you have a steady hand, try the grout pen. However, looking at your tile in the photo above, you can see the grout is quite gone, "hiding low" in between the tiles, so you could fill the spaces with grey grout, even if it's just a very thin layer - I think it will look better and last longer. Hello John, sorry, your questions are a bit vague.Where in the country are you based? London and the south will be more expensive than further north. If it's mainly internal fit out + new windows and doors [and roof windows] allow about £1650 + VAT / square metre of gross internal floor area. This is based on one builder completing the whole project for you for one lump sum and also based on mid range quality of build and finish. Obviously, if you are after high quality bespoke then it will be a lot more.If you are sourcing materials and organising trades yourself this will reduce costs but add to your time required and hassle factor. Assuming you are after mid range stuff then Howdens kitchens are ok as are some of the internet bathroom suppliers. Having looked at your plans briefly would the new drain run from the ground floor wc be more straight forward if went out to the right and down the parking driveway to the manhole? I assume the existing factory floor is concrete and therefore you will have to break out the concrete for the new drains? Hope this helps.

Hi Victoria, I don't have any plans to show you, but some construction photos of our side extension - I think we have the same layout as you, but in the mirror :)). We extended our kitchen 4 years ago, unfortunately I'm not able to tell you how much it cost as we'd had a complete house renovation and paid it all as a pack. However, the structural beams and glazing in the kitchen were billed separately; main beam was about £3000, the glass (including folding doors) was £15000. I remember we also asked for a quote for a roof with 3 or 4 skylights, builder said he'd do it for £9000 at the time (we live in Cardiff). We had the same problem, wanting to maximize the use of space and get as much natural light as possible. We decided NOT to have two access points to the kitchen, but close off the middle room double door and have an internal window instead. Our thinking was that, if we keep a door there, the space is lost, as it needs to be 'free of stuff' for access :)) especially because, as with your house, we have a loo in between and the back length of that loo can't be anything but a corridor (aka dead space). By closing it, we gained a fully usable middle room and a somewhat closed corner in the kitchen, ideal for bins, feeding the cats, dumping hoover/ bikes out the way, etc. I hope I make sense (I'm a bit tired and my English seams to fail me at such times... :)) You can even have it as a play corner...
