Need to match the sofa and armchair

Have an ivory sofa with large black leaf print - hate our lounge but cannot change the sofa or armchair. There are not high ceilings but big bay window and side window and glass doors in to the lounge so very light BUT always seems depressing if not full sunshine ! Help what colour should the walls be and how can I cheer it up. My husband has a desk in the bay window with a conker brown leather chair which has to stay too. There are baskets for wood and storage too, the whole room lacks 'something' warm and inviting.

Duck egg blue goes well with the existing colours you have there. Or if you're feeling adventurous, perhaps try painting one wall in a rich peacock blue! If blues aren't your thing, maybe an aubergine shade could work.

Do you have blinds or curtains? What are they like? In one of my rooms I hung a plain burgundy blind (to coordinate with the patterned wallpaper) with a sheer cheesecloth-style voile gathered at one side. I was surprised how much brighter the room looked after I hung the voile.

If you could post a couple of photos, it makes it easier for others to come up with suggestions as they may see something you haven't thought to mention.

Thanks for your comments - strange I have a peacock colour rug on the floor but still 'cold' would you believe. I may of solved the problem almost - found all my Timney Fowler dramatic roman fabrics in my sewing caravan and hung over my heavy gold pole which divides the bay area for my husband to work at and WOW it looks so lovekly - big roman heads in silver on a matt black fabric......I may even put a black and white chequerboard vinyl on the floor just to be completely mad - but the walls hmmmmm????

Are you completely set on the Brompton from next? I don't think it goes with the rug. The rug is very ethnic-looking and informal. The sofa has a very tradition shape. Something more informal and squidgy would work better. Colour-wise along the lines of what you picked would work nicely. I would lean towards a natural fabric, e.g. linen to achieve a more coherent look.

As I'm not very mobile, I tend to sit in the same chair for a lot of the day. So last year, the OH bought me a leather reclining chair from G plan, which I'm really happy with. Our purchase of sofa/armchair prior to that was from the recently deceased Multiyork, for the smaller of our sitting rooms. We liked that you could get replacement covers and a variety of fillings and firmness for the cushions. I was so sad when I heard they had gorn to the great furniture showroom in the sky. However, we could really do with a new set of sofas/armchairs for the other sitting room, the ones we have in there are about 16 years old. They were from DFS. We bought them a) because they were affordable (as we'd just moved in) and b) they were roughly the style we were looking for in leather. But the sofas have never been massively comfortable and the one armchair which I did find comfortable developed a fault and had to be replaced and the replacement wasn't half a good. So we could have done with Multiyork hanging on a wee bit longer, because without a shadow of a doubt we'd have bought the new ones from there.
