Comments (54)Tossing in some Feng Shui - the heavy table at the bottom of the stairs did block the "flow" of the stairs in a manner of blocking positive energy as it moves through the house.. . How much neater and bright you've made it! My only suggestion is to lower the art on your wall to eye level and not have it so high, and look a bit lonely. ;-( I can't tell much from this photo as it's a close up and leaves out the space where you had the table. Overall you've done a good job with that dark space and so fresh looking - and you DID end up painting your wood on the stairs.. That did wonders. Maybe on the wall with the photos, add more and maybe a small mirror or two much like the photo at the top. One way to do this is to measure out the space you want to use on the wall and tape off some floor space or rug space with blue tape. Then, lay out some framed pieces and you can mix and match until you get what you like. Saves lots of holes in the wall.. You can definitely pick up small mirrors for next to nothing and maybe use family photos mixed with other prints. The wall just looks a bit bare. That's my only last bit of suggestion, and may add some color and bling to that wall. Again, good job!!...See MoreBoring corridor

Comments (660)So funny! I'm planning to paint the bannister at the new house (TNH) black and am veering towards painting the treads and risers black too... I've been searching for images of black staircases on Houzz and putting them in my entrance hall ideabook. They are few and far between. In your case, I think, with your white walls, maybe the stairs white and the bannister black? (Assuming the white walls continue up the stair walls enabling the b/w contrast.) You've already put black firmly into the equation, adding some more may give more reason for the black rad cab. In my case, there is a very off-centre radiator that could so very easily have been directly opposite the front door in TNH which is rather annoying as it stuffs up the focal point. We are leaving here with every radiator covered with a cabinet - and going to TNH that has loads of radiators ...but no cabinets! Yes, the work ahead is daunting - especially since the area of Ireland we're going to is very basic and not full of DIY resources, etc. I keep thinking I'll paint TNH white - to make things simpler(!) But try as I may colour keeps wandering through my mind! Lovely to be in touch again!...See MoreHelp for furniture layout and decoration needed please
Comments (106)Hi Katie. I do like the furniture you've chosen, as I said previously I would personally struggle to arrange furniture on a flat ŵall without corners, alcoves etc! I think it might be an idea to create a new post so others may be encouraged to respond without reading through previous comments. It may potentially work if you were to move the tv unit to the right. Have a floor lamp to the left of the unit and the chair angled in front of the lamp. Perhaps have a long piece of art or set of 2/3 to the right of the tv with maybe a plant stand or something and then the chinese cabinet. Do play around with the height of things though. I know you've looked before but I really think you need an area rug to zone the living space. Re kitchen not sure of your current thoughts but have you thought of a peninsular coming off that right ŵall within the kitchen? If you were to move the dining table perhaps a couple of accent chairs and table for the bay to keep your husband happy?!...See MoreJ. Stephens Interiors
