Need advice for painting & redecoration before move-in day
Comments (17)Wow, thanks so much for all of the amazing tips. They have really helped us out with what might work best in the house. @ Isidora Markovic We are going to treat the wooden floors and keep them dark in Colour. I thought in the kitchen, we might add some spotlights on the ceiling to brighten up the area as a short term solution. @minnie101 Thanks so much, I agree to paint the beam white to blend it into the ceiling. The grasscloth paper will definitely be going. I like the brick as a feature wall and feel the grass cloth is a bit cheap looking. I like the idea of a warm neutral colour. The previous owners shared a picture with white walls and the whole room looked rather cold. As above, I agree that spotlights and lamps will warm the room up a lot. We are based in South Africa, so have many nice paints to choose from. Delux seems to be big here. @Lyn Hickson Thanks so much, Lyn. The precious owner actually owns all of the furniture and the art work. We have travelled quite a bit and thought it might be nice to print some of our images on canvas and hag them instead of art work, so hopefully it will work well in the room. Thanks @ Man About The House - The DIY & Odd Job Handyman - The wooden panel above the arch is actually a bamboo wallpaper which we will be removing - I agree to paint it a neutral/light colour. I'm also quite drawn to a grey colour palette perhaps with some navy/neutral furniture and accessorise with yellow and wood. (not sure if this will work but just a thought). Really appreciate the feedback so far. As much as I would love to live in it first, Im too much of a keen bean and definitely want to give it a lick of paint and get the dirty work done while we have time and before the furniture gets in. Thanks for all the advice - will post some after pictures one it comes together. :)...See MoreBest piece of advice for working at home?
Comments (48)The most important thing is that I did this, talked to all my loved ones and concluded an agreement that working hours are working hours. I need to be focused and I didn't want to be distracted from my main goal. Therefore, while I am at my workplace, I can be sure that I will not be disturbed. The second point is the separation of duties. I have my own business and I hired an accounting service so that they take over the formal part of working with documents. It all works online, you can click on their website. So far I do not need a secretary but if I expand my business, I will definitely hire such a person (also on a remote basis)...See Moreadvice on working out BTU for extension
Comments (24)So the whit bit sticking out shows the nib of the original wall that the steel sits on. It’s not that deep now but we are waiting on building regs to confirm the min size we can have. It’s just to the side of the chimney breast so will only be about 400mm deep maybe? Or less as we are building out the alcoves to insulate them so it won’t fit a rad on it. I can put a vertical one by the dining room window wall - think we have about 650mm width there. And a larger one behind the dining area that we could turn down if it gets too hot? There will be space behind the chairs as the table will sit under the rooflight which is about 600mm from the wall side....See MoreSmall terrace bathroom before and after plus advice!
Comments (8)Looks gorgeous, I agree no changes needed. Something I didn't realise how much I'd love in my bathroom was a bath rack/ board which was a Christmas present from my sister. Had forgotten what a luxury taking time to enjoy a bath is ( wine is optional!!) My only instaworthy home pic!!!...See MoreUser
