Andrew the plants on the right hand side are called Acanthus Mollis or commonly known as Oyster plant.

Hey Dorsetdor, I trust this finds you well today. While I see where you are going with the tree idea on the corner, I personally love the clean lines that divide the lawn and the patio area so I would try and maintain that if possible. What I would suggest instead is to install a trellis on the top of the wall. I would then plant an established Jasmine creeper to work up to the trellis. I did a quick mockup mood board on the Houzz sketch app if you would like to have a look. :) With that wonderful sunshine, the Jasmine will smell absolutely heavenly in that sunshine trap in the late-evening. Hi annavall, yes the Cistus is in my garden. The raised pond is a recent addition and it came as a flat pack kit. Has to be painted before assembly so a bit of work, but the tank inside it is excellent quality, very tough. ill try and upload the pics I couldn’t upload yesterday! Ceanothus is gorgeous and there are many types, but mine is evergreen and will get tall, which I want. Another great evergreen is Viburnum, loads of different species, all with lovely flowers. If you have acid soil, you could grown Camellias, Rhodendrons or Pieris, but they suffer in an alkaline chalky soil. Paul, I'm not sure where in the country you are but if you are dead set on removing the 30's tiled fireplaces you should definitely contact 20th Century Fireplaces from J's link above. They may be interested in buying them from you - so you can top up the renovation fund! We bought our lovely all tiled fireplace for the living room of our 1936 semi from them. The showroom was an amazing treasure trove of delights. Please don't take a sledgehammer to your fireplaces they could be just what someone else is looking for.

When I say sedums I thinking more of the general term of succulents which is what sedums (stone crop) are. There are many succulents that will survive UK temperatures but most will like it sunny with plenty of stones and grit in the soil, which is why I thought they’d be perfect for your situation. Here’s a little more info: https://www.perrywood.co.uk/gardening-tips/succulents/ I‘ve had great success with sedum forsterianum Oracle (see first pic), love the colour this time of year. I also like to mix them with alpine plants (I find thrift and saxifrage quite reliable) and some Mediterranean plants like the trailing rosemary which like similar conditions. I think you have the potential to be really creative as well (google succulent garden), perhaps using the flowerpot on it’s side and have plants spilling out. If you do go down this route, do some research first as not all succulents are geared for our winter temperatures and the popular sedum ‘autumn joy’ can grow fairly big. Here‘s some inspiration:
