This is the other end of the room. We think we'll need privacy in the winter but see no need to cover the top triangle.

Hi Jennifer, Great question - firstly, I don't think that two different types of blinds will necessarily look odd, but it's a case of carefully matching them. However, I'm not sure panel blinds will have the desired effect of controlling the heat in a south-facing room. You say you have looked at PerfectFit blinds - these types of blinds can be made with honeycomb Pleated fabrics which help to control temperature extremes. Our ThermaShade Pleated fabrics are just like this. We get asked this question a lot, and that is why we sell integrated or integral blinds which are totally enclosed within the glass cavity of the double glazed unit, and are available for most of the doors and windows we sell. They can be manually or electrically operated, are available in a range of colours, and have Venetian or pleated versions. They can be closed for complete privacy, opened to any angle for different shading or raised up almost completely out of the way. Aside from enclosing all the working parts (safe for toddlers), they enhance the thermal efficiency of the unit they are enclosed within and will never need cleaning! You can upgrade existing doors and windows, although if you are purchasing new, ask your supplier about Uni-blinds Integral Blinds beforehand.

Japanese panels look lovely and minimal, but when it comes down to light control and flexibility they are not great. The biggest drawback is that one section of window is permanent,y covered even when fully open. Shutters and Venetian Blinds can cover all of the window but be tilted to allow light in even when they are drawn together or fully pulled down. Shutters offer even more light flexibilty due to having split panels. The louvres on on the top panel can be open letting light through, whilst the bottom section can be closed and vice versa. I had Japanese panels in my dining room for several years but installed my own shutters just before last Christmas, it's made an incredable difference. Another problem with Japanese panels is that to come accross a three metre span the track required could be too deep to fit the reveal. I'm able to open mine fully during the day too, but with a desk beneath that may not be an option without moving items on the desk

Hello everyone...this is SO very helpful - and thanks Kathryn for all your advice! We're going through the exact same routine for slide & tilt doors - and needs some other windows too. Our shortlist is Sunseekers or IDsystems. We are edging towards IDS, as they can offer the doors AND all other glazing we need - whereas SS only offer the doors (and also saw a few dodgy reviews for them too). IDS are few grand pricier. However your experience makes me feel they may be worth the extra. May I ask you, Kathryn, how much more glazing did you have (re negotiating price down), and what size are your (beautiful!) doors - are they 950mm panels? How much more did you pay for the special colour? THANKS so much,!
