Struggling to choose a grey for the bedroom
I don't think I fully appreciated the vast differences of undertone options. I know I don't want a browny undertone grey (although for all I know some of the attached photos do have this browny undertone??). I've attached a few Houzz photos as ideas of what I do like (so you can see my struggle between the pale and dark) but I don't know what shades these are.
So far I've got some Valspar samples on my wall ranging from blue undertones, to pinky and to a greeny one. I'm more keen on the top and middle right samples although I don't love them - I just prefer them out of those samples. I've painted them on different walls in the room to see it in different light.
I've been browsing F&B shades and like the look of Lamp Room Grey but yet to buy and sample it. Does anyone have some advice or recommendations for me before I buy another 50 shades of grey? ;-)

Comments (8)Hi Suzie, could you perhaps do something a bit out of the box and choose something that is a splash of colour? Like a found object? Chinese ceramic stools? you can also go to vintage fairs etc. Or some companies source and stock interesting pieces. I quite like the idea of timber for your chest of drawers etc. Difficult to visualise the space thought! Colour choice is pretty personal. I am partial to blues and purples.. but that is just me! Comments (51)Yes you’re right about that Love your home bed, the wings are deeper than our wardrobes (which are half recessed) so if we had little shelf bedsides they’d be really hard to reach, we‘d have to sit up and reach around the wings. If I’m honest I don’t think we can face doing anything too complicated like false wall or moving the sockets to allow for the full width headboard! New lights.... maybe... husband is predictably Not Keen. So, I think that boils it down to the naturalmat Prideaux bed, in linen 😁 with the bigger headboard size if they will do that. I’m up for painting that section of wall though - we could either use the mid grey green shown on the door, or a much darker grey green (the mid is Blanket and the dark is Squid Ink, both Paint & Paper library). If we use the mid paint then the bed colour would be dark and vice versa. Linen curtains - need to look at all my samples in the room later on today! 8 years agoYes indeed. Mine is a v pale grey without any major undertones and I've also used it in my dining area as i liked it so much.
The room is very far from finished but I have white walls, chalk furniture and although the room has a south facing window, it gets a lot of shadow from the eaves.

8 years agolast modified: 8 years agoHello Iwindsor, I do love grey and have you thought about charcoals? If you compliment really dark colours with something chalky and light.. Whitening by Little Greene is a favourite and is really gr8 for ceilings too.. You could then have Mole's Breath by Farrow & Ball, Or Downpipe, Railings which I really love for example... see colours... Mole's Breath is the lightest and railings the darkest.. Whitening at the bottom... Think these are all fantastic.. : ))

7 years ago@carolinefox Here it is! We actually stuck with gloss white from when we bought it. We used Strong White on the ceiling which worked really nicely.

I use a lot of grey with my interiors and have always struggled with the tonal values, they always seem to have a beige or blue cast.. I have just discovered a new range that is superb !
Try and get hold of a "Little Green Grey chart"....not to be confused with the standard Little green chart that has greys in it.
The grey colour chart, as the name implies is just greys, t's a superb range.

Don't forget that the lighting in the room will effect the colour you choose so make sure you do a sample panel to access it.
