Who's got pendant lighting in their kitchen?
Comments (17)Luciana I get you, I had a similar dilemma re the Tom Dixon lights, and ended up finding some gorgeous vintage copper lights which I like more, are more unusual, and haven't seen in anyone else's home. I had the central light re-positioned over the kitchen table (it's a large 70s onion shaped copper coloured one that moves up and down). I love it over the table and it sits quite low and looks great. At night we only have that one on and the rest of the kitchen disappears (including the washing up!) so it feels more intimate. I then found 2 more smaller ones that are over the sink and benchtop, and higher up than the table one. They are all different but the same 70s copper style so they look good together and I love them. People often comment (in a good way) as they add a bit of interest and personality to the room....See MoreKitchen bench extension
Comments (8)What do you want to use this extra seating for? Is it just for casual chit chat while someone is cooking? Do you need the extra benchtop? Do you want to eat meals here? I think that all makes a difference. You have room for a medium round/oval table in that space which may be more comfortable and flexible. It could be a more casual seating area where people could face the kitchen, I see your dining table at the far end means people have their back to the kitchen. If you really want to extend the bench, I like Feioi and minnie101 ideas re using a different material and more rounded. I would go for wood or colourful laminate and you could have a more rounded/wider end so some people could sit on the end, facing whoever is in the kitchen. A colour would look great, the yellow, orange from your painting would make it zing and look fab! Same if you decide to get a table, make it fun. Beware cold materials like marble or metal as people will be more likely to be leaning on them and those are cold on your arms. I find this even in restaurants with marble/metal tables. Personally I don't like sitting on stools and prefer chairs where your feel can touch the ground, much more comfortable so you could consider making the extended bench a lower level. Comments (87)Hi Laura, thanks for posting. Wow, it looks amazing! Amazing how much difference the floor, splashback and mirror make, it's transformed. Well done. I'm struggling to like a splashback in my new kitchen (even though I chose it) so was looking for inspiration - my partner just doesn't get it and will probably leave me if I even dare to mention changing it :-)...See MoreAdvice for 1840's Welsh Miners Cottage reno + Extension (Floorplan)
Comments (34)Tough cookie. The footprint size is nice, but with a 6p family you'll need enough room to move around. If a loft can be added to the new part of the house, that'd be nice for storage. Folding stairs in the wardrobe? In the extension: First I'd like to say I imagined the extension to be designed like a house on it's own, glued together to the old one with a flat roofed 'corridor' with lots of rooflights. Main entry with wardrobe on the side. Kitchen with shallow cabinets on the front of the peninsula (storage instead of barstools) and row of floor to ceiling cabinets with a built-in 178cm fridge and a 178cm freezer, ovens, etc. Family dining area with french doors towards the back garden. Also managed to get each kid their own bedroom. Their bathroom has a shower and a toilet stall and two sinks. Separate toilet, for morning queues (and guests). No tub in the layout though, I don't know if you'd like one and what age your kids are.. Backdoor to enter the home (with your boots on) near the hall+toilet, with a hamper and also for emergencies. Footprint is slightly deeper on the left, but smaller on the right, square so you can add a roof similar to the old cottage? In the old house: Master bedroom with ensuite and closet area. Lounge room with a hopefully marvelous fireplace. Old front door stays the same from the outside, but unused. Maybe open up the ceilings and insulate the roof, so you'll have a vaulted ceiling with beams (all depends on what is allowed and how it looks in there). Haven't drawn in many windows, just imagine they are right where they need to be....See Morerebelphillips
