Uni bond on fresh render before painting?

Is this right? I know I need to seal the fresh render before using sand tex paint. Please advise thanks Louise

Use wall primer, clear or white oil based, it's called wall stabiliser..

Oh I am completely green with envy! To buy a beautiful house and score all that gorgeous furniture - how fabulous! I haven't read all the posts but agree that to paint most of these pieces would be a crying shame. I also agree with having a few antique dealers look at your furniture and assess it's value; then sell the pieces you're not so fond of & enjoy those pieces you love.. At the risk of causing upset to anyone, the only pieces I'd consider painting would be those that are damaged beyond restoration but could still be usable &/or functional.... My head is still spinning at all that fab furniture - IF you could find it in Australia you'd be paying $$$$$$!

Hi Claire, Your more than welcome. The advice to use a "local" architect is a good one, he will know the area, the various legislation in force for your district and he should be on talking terms with the local councillors so his advise will save you a lot of time. I would advise you to ask him to do a full survey, interior and exterior, ideally you need an architect that can transfer the survey to ACAD format. (Make it digital)... Even if your only doing the front at this stage its good to have the existing interiors drawn up so you can use them later. When your architect has drawn up the front of the house, please feel free to send it to me and I'll have a tinker to see if I can fine tune it for you. Design "all" the interior layouts at the same time even if you will be doing each room stage by stage. If you do them individually the design will be fragmented. Hello - that sounds exciting and it will be so nice to have the additional space. My first thought is to have the roof cut into the side of the house similar the first image below or to add a faux brick facade that is similar to the house (second photo). If those things are not possible then I would add elements to both the garage and the house that are the same...for example, have your front door and garage door match so they look like they belong together. See third and fourth photo. My thought about parking and again, helping the addition blend in would be to make sure the paved parking area extends to the front of the house too (last photo)...this way you will have plenty of parking and it will help tie the 2 parts of the house together. colour paint for garage in garden?

Hi guys!! Updating this as I need more help. Well the paint has not weathered well!!! Even though I had cleaned the original wall and got rid of the algae - it's come back and is now bright green all along the bottom of the garage. Also some of the paint is flaking on the front which it shouldn't do surely if it's masonry?? So I'm back to square one, sigh. I plan on buying a specialist algae remover from a specialist company which is super strong and then perhaps getting an undercoat (as previously mentioned by ED) or sealer to seal existing finish. then using a branded masonry paint like stormshield by Johnstones. However - I'm now thinking of painting it in a darker grey anthracite colour as after having had it white for a few months, I really don't like it! BUT - I still have the issue of all the off white windows and guttering which has yellowed slightly so don't know if I am just making far more work for myself. I feel the darker colour would hide any returning algae but then the bad plastic will look awful next to it so I don't know what to do. Also I'm limited on timescale as we are putting the house on the market in a few months and I have so much painting to do outside (the house front, garage, all the new gates and fencing - and it's all got to be done as soon as the frost goes and when it's not rainy! argh. HELP
