need colour advise for living room

we have just bought two sofas one leather, one in fig (see below).

Our living room has woodblock floor and plain walls. What colour curtains and rug would suit best, any advise?

I recommend you go rug-shopping first and then choose a paint colour afterwards. Persian and Turkish patterned rugs are back (if they ever left?) and I'd look there first. Depending on your budget you might like to search out an old one in good shape. The well-worn look can be very attractive. With your furniture choices, you could add just about any rug. I'd recommend something with a bold design to give your room some character. Here are a couple of inspirational photos. Even though they have white furniture, they show how a patterned carpet can liven up a room beautifully.

maria galvano thank you, I love them too and make me smile whenever I look at them, I bought them from a Bedouin woman in Petra (Jordan). They remind me of an amazing trip to Syria and Jordan some years ago, travelling independently using public transport and meeting amazing people along the way, both locals and tourists. Loved Petra so much and the local Bedouin people, went back for a second day to have another look around as well as sit and drink mint tea and listen to amazing stories ... and yes, they make my home feel alive as most things in it have some connection to a life lived. Dark and bold colours are trending at the moment, with greens and blue playing a huge part. It all depends on if you're after a warm palette or a cool one. Warm colours such as burgandy or burnt orange would work well in contrast to the flooring. If you're after something cooler the a deep blue, emerald green, and dark purple would work amazingly. Just make sure you balance the bold colours with a complimentary neutral in order to keep some of the natural light and tie evrything in with the flooring.

Hi. i dont think the room is long enough to divide it. Are you using existing furnishings as we would need to know the size. It would also be useful to see/know dimensions of the radiator on the left wall and whether the desk area will be used frequently. In any case I think I would put in a window seat and have the table in front of that (with ventilation holes for the radiator)

Hi, I think you have to sort of ignore the speakers, from a design point of view. Even though they are big black objects, so is your TV. They are there for a reason. I think you need to focus on what you'd like for the floor, sofa, curtains, media unit and wall colour. The floor, walls and sofa are the largest surfaces in your room. I would personally prefer a wooden and/or white media unit, wood (effect) floor, medium to light coloured sofa and medium/light coloured walls. You could consider painting the TV wall in a darker colour, so the TV and speakers won't stand out too much. For example: I know these speakers are smaller, but it would also work with your larger ones. It's everything but the speakers that makes this a cosy room. If you know what I mean :-)
