Warmer alternative to Slipper Satin for kitchen-diner wall colour?
Comments (0)I have painted wooden kitchen units like this in green-grey (I think the colour is a match to F&B French Grey) http://www.benchmarxkitchens.co.uk/Kitchens/Kitchen-Ranges/Borrowdale and oak worktops, with a fairly tile effect floor. The kitchen is quite large and light, it faces South. I chose Slipper Satin, which in theory should look great. But it doesn't. It looks cold and rather unfriendly. I don't have many wall units (too many windows/doors etc) so there is quite a lot of empty wall space and the colour looks a bit clinical and insipid in that space (I have used it elsewhere with the same aspect and it looks great). We use the room a lot and I'd like it to feel like a welcoming family space. I think the wall colour needs to be a little darker and muddier if that makes sense.... I don't have time to get loads of testers so any recommendations would be great. So far I am pondering Old White or Bone by F&B or Welcome or any of the French Greys by Little Greene but I haven't used any of them before.......See MoreHelp! Bifold kitchen window or alternative
Comments (11)Here's a pic from last week inside (mid renovation!) I don't have one of it open. It doesn't open flat, 90 degrees, that was a compromise. Our plan is to have a table or shelf outside under the window so we can serve food out of it in the summer. Comments (3)Yes you can use gray!!! Pick a gray that has a warm, beige undertone, like sand... It will go with cream, it will make your room look warm, and it is gray. Gray is the new neutral. What you need is really good lighting. Meaning, I would have to see a pick, but maybe a floor lamp, a table lamp, etc... It will make the space look, oh, so warm and delicious. Lamp shades should be light cream, possible some beads around, make it fun and give it some movement, to help with the dark space. Get a nice rug, neutral colors, simple design, lots or curves in the design, to warm it up. No angles, that will make it cold. Remember - "dark" for a living room is not so bad. 8 years agoWe just completed a kitchen which initially I was nervous about the colour choice, but actually the mint finish and metro tiles looked really well together

8 years agoI don't think grey is faddy. I first had it nearly 9 years ago (courtesy of laura Ashley believe it or not!!). Blue is a good alternative though (and very popular on houzz!) the first is hicks blue by little greene and the 2nd is railings by F&B. LG also do a darker version in basalt and scree is a nice grey. How much light does your kitchen get though and what colour worktop and floor? Are you changing the handles and ŵalls? Are you also painting the cabinets yourself? If so I wouldn't worry too much about fads, just go for what you love. I would also highly recommend little Greene intelligent eggshell for the job!

8 years agoThanks for that, I did think about a tonal scheme, I'll have a look at Little Green Paint, I haven't heard of it before. There are wall cabinets, and it has an island. I've tried to attach a pic of the window, though I don't think you can get the scale of how big it is properly. I've found some great cup handles too, quite cheap too, about £2 each I think.
