The wall colour is Dulux Black Caviar. The cushions were custom made.

Mylands. You always regret your economies. I've repainted this kitchen 4X over the years, and last time was in Dulux which wore so poorly. Just custom mixed a new vibrant duck egg to paint my kitchen in marble matt walls, eggshell woodwork, and floor paint. Mylands matched impeccably. It was a dream of coverage, and looks spectacular. The quality of the pigment shows, looks the money, nothing like synthetic mediocre pigments in cheaper paint. It's a big improvement.

If deep grey really appeals to you then go for it! The beauty of paint is that you can always change your mind, it may be a bit time consuming but it's relatively inexpensive (compared to picking the wrong sofa or kitchen cabinets :0) I have a Pinterest board called 'The dark side' with hundreds of images of interiors that I find incredibly attractive (think Abigail Ahern) but some people would probably think were blacker than the inside of a camel and avoid like the plague :D I currently live in a small Georgian terrace with low ceilings and little natural light so most of them aren't an option (unless you really don't mind bumping into things) but I have painted two walls in my bedroom (which is much larger/higher for some reason) in a deep steel grey and I love it, I only wish I hadn't lost courage and painted the other two in a pale white/grey. Hi Minnie I'm good thanks. Sounds like we need to form a George Clarke fan club! I've stalked him on Twitter for years :) Minnie was in John Lewis earlier and had a gander at the Little Greene colour chip board and have to say Silt looked fabulous with the Purple Brown you like, it's looks fairly dark compared to other colours you've mentioned (and maybe a wildcard offering) but might work for exterior. Also had a little play with the Johnstones visualiser thingy on their website and very straightforward, I've never had any joy with the Dulux one.

There are virtually no paint colours that are true 'grey' as in made from pure black and pure white. They are all a 'colour'. Paint companies could help us out by naming the 'mother hue' - for example, Downpipe would be blue, but if they were to do that, we would not buy millions of test pots and that would mean they would make a lot less profit. Additionally, they could simply explain what hue the various colours belong to and describe how the colour may change in different lights. If only companies such as Farrow and Ball had on their website a boxy North, South, East and West facing room which showed their colours at different times of day we would all be so well informed. Of course, they pay lip service to this by making little suggestions, but in reality they could go much further. In addition I do wonder if we are often seduced by a beautiful room with lovely period details than the actual 'colour'. I sound cynical because I am.
