Viscose Silky look rugs - any good?

I have seen a lovely silky look rug at M&S in silver and it's made of Viscose. The reviews are fine but when I checked out other views on using this material for a rug they are less than complimentary from rug professionals. As the rug is not cheap I am slightly nervous about purchasing. This material and type of rug seems very popular with other co's too.

Please can anyone advise if they have a viscose/rayon rug and has it lasted/durability. The rug is for the bedroom around the bed etc., See link below for rug.

Really depends on what you plan on using it for. Viscose is an artificial silk and doesn't have the same strength or stain resistance as wool... but then you can't get the same texture or sheen from wool, the only way you'd get it would be to use silk (at 3 or 4 times the cost) and you'd have the same issues with stain resistance and durability...

I'd say for a bedroom is would be pretty good, not ideal for a dining room and ok for a living room if you don't have kids or pets running around (or you don't mind it looking a bit worse for wear after a year or two).

Really it's about knowing what you are looking for and if you can accept the down-sides from it. Being a synthetic material you'd maybe expect it to be cheap but with these rugs mainly made in India I can tell you that viscose costs more than wool, wool is in abundance there whereas the processes involved in making viscose from trees/bamboo is more involved. As these rugs go the price is pretty good, not sure about the quality so can't comment on that.

We do a tip-sheared range called Blade which is nice and a similar price but slightly different look. The plain viscose ranges tend to be more expensive as they are often made really dense and heavy (weight being another reason for the cost). There's the Katherine Carnaby Chrome range which is very similar to the M&S range in design but will be a much higher quality, but they are twice the price.

I've got some fantastic viscose rugs from designers guild and I'm very pleased. However, as mentioned above - not sure how they'd wear with children or pets. I haven't got either and they look good as new despite being a few years old.

Actually the curtains look fine, better than I expected but yes a totally different style to the rug and both quite distinct patterns so clashed. I'd go with a more abstract fluid rug in similar colours and a splash of something like pale lime. blue or orange so it's not too matchy matchy. One step at a time! I've been known to buy and change sofas and rugs in my living room numerous times until I'm happy (luckily I like pre-loved things so rarely lose much, if any money on them, just takes a bit of effort. Hi Kelly. Wth the room shape I'd go for a rectangular table, what are the room dimensions? I remember you posting before and you liked oriental designs and were from Asia? Why don't you go for that look which also gives a modern feel with the chairs ? This is the canton table and wishbone chair from Lombok. They're on offer ATM, the chairs are out of stock but If you like them I would try ringing and pre-ordering if the website doesn't allow you to. I've got the chairs myself, I bought them whilst on offer and the day they were due to be delivered they brought out another offer which made them cheaper which they honoured after a frantic phone call! If jot by a brown table do do you mean wood with brown tones? You've got some grey tones in the floor so I think grey chairs could work

Also like traditional rugs, and i think using them just brings the same rules as any other. If using a specific rug, you need to build the room around it, and use colours in the rug as Forzaitalia says. So with the navy base you would have navy, maybe a bit of pale beige / to lighten, I think you may struggle a little to tie in your amrchairs as they are very bright, and the colour dominating, plus it's a colour that isn't in either rug. Personally I would say that if you want to work with the rugs, then i'd change the armchairs for a neutral colour. I too would go for the second rug as it's easier to work with and a bit less dated. However, yellow and blue will not work with that rug.

What a gorgeous sofa, good choice. I think you could go either way. That is calm neutral shades like your first rug, or a bit spicier with the gold one. Blue and gold are always a good look. As to the coffee table, don’t panic yet. I think it would fit in better with calmer neutrals rather than the gold. The gold rug would suit a table like that morrocan brass one you have in the corner, it’s lovely. Now to throw a spanner in the works, how about a Persian style rug? It would really suit your room. It’s just a suggestion, and it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but I love that vintage eclectic look. The red ones look amazing with blue.
