Please I need your help! My front room looks dull, and the wall paper
Comments (4)Hi. The room appears quite dark atm so I'd go for a warm neutral on the walls, perhaps try farrow and ball or little Greene. For the wallpaper Maybe a subtle pattern in a metallic to bounce some light or a grasscloth effect paper to add texture. I'd lighten the sofas up with throws and cushions in different textures and patterns. Do you prefer a neutral scheme or colour? Have you considered recovering your seat pads on the chairs to lighten them up and maybe add pattern? It's easy with a staple gun! A vase of faux flowers on the table would look great (I love the hydrangea from Oka!) unless of course you can afford real each week and a plant elsewhere. Agree re pendant light over dining table and lamps to cosy the space. Perhaps a bigger rug for the living area to zone the seating space and one for the reading area. Is it also possible to shorten the curtain pole on the main window? For accessories do look at chrome, glass etc as they will bounce light...See MoreLiving room curtain advice please
Comments (13)You need to make a decision. Do you want the fabric to bring colour and pattern to your room or do you want to keep the whole room neutral? If you want pattern, the next decision is what style- check or plaid, stripe, floral or geometric? Then what colour(s). The room, as you point out, is not overly bright, but do you use this room much during the day or is it an evening room? You could opt for deep, rich colour that warms the room at night like burgundy, deep turquoise or terracotta. Adding patterned cushions with similar colours will splash colour around the room. Also, I'd replace the Roman blinds with matching fabric to the curtains, otherwise that will will lack colour. You could make a single curtain for each of those smaller windows in your main fabric and pull it to the side furthest from the fireplace, tied back. As to style, since you don't appear to be overlooked, floor length curtains on the front window and patio doors can be on a 50mm pole extending at least 150mm plus finials each of the windows. To stack them further back extend the pole more, but take care not to have wall showing just before the window recess. Tieing them back would allow more light to come in. Check out readymade by Montgomery https://www.montgomery.co.uk/ready-made-curtains/whitworth-21-duck-egg/9927, John Lewis (Scion Navaho), Terry's Curtains, Heals. If you choose a multi coloured pattern, later changes to your lounge will not necessarily mean that you need to change the curtains. Remember that decorating your home is less about style and more about you and your family. Have fun....See Moreliving room update - which sofa??
Comments (22)Hi all, thank you for your comments and pics. They were really helpful. We have decided on the French connection zinc in grey/charcoal (3 seater) combination with the grey leather cuddler. I’m just so excited I could burst. We need to wait 6-8 weeks so gives me a little time to consider paint and layout. Though I have already sold our sofa so we are taking in in terms to sit in the Ikea armchair and floor picnics. What kind of layout do you guys think would work? Thinking 3 seater on window wall and tv in same corner or where the chest is? or 3 seater on opposite wall and moving tv to corner under window and then cuddler either in centre facing fireplace or where chest is? The armchair and child chair will be at the other end in a reading corner. Positioning: The chest can go either to left or right of fire depending on tv location though it does not quite fit to right so I would have to go lengthways sling radiator or to right. The best of tables could go at opposite end of the three seater. Want to buy a new tv/media unit at some point. Not sure on style but think will need to be either white or a dark wood to mix well with the chest.. Colours.. I love the redoute Afaw rug to lighten the room and am thinking maybe two walls in a teal - farrow and ball Hague blue or another (open to recommendations) on fireplace wall and wall to left (where chest currently is?) to separate living from play. Not sure whether to repaint other walls in a brilliant white, leave in the soft white currently or paint in a pale grey. Can anyone help with suggestions? Also thinking a few pops of yellow with cushions and keeping the gold round mirror though it may Need positioning a little higher? Thoughts? Back to houzz it is for inspiration....See MoreWhat colour living room?
Comments (5)I wouldn't go for a pale grey sofa because in my opinion it restricts the paint options in the living room. If it's a gloomy room then some greys could make it gloomier. If therefore you wanted to choose a warmer wall colour the pale grey sofa could look a bit odd. I would opt for a tan sofa or a warmer linen colour and this opens up paint options....See MoreDenton Developments
