Wallpaper that won't fade or scuff too easily

We chose a lovely William Morris wallpaper to go under the dado rail in our Edwardian house, but it has faded really quickly and now needs replacing. Any ideas on a wallpaper that will look classic, but won't fade or scuff too easily? Goldish palette. thanks

Hi. You could try lincrusta. I think (!) it was traditionally painted in a gloss finish so would be very hard wearing (particularly given how long the originals have remained on the walls!). I've also had a quick look at decorators varnish which you can get in a dead flat finish. Looking at Polyvine, the decorators varnish is stain resistant although their other products specifically state fade resistant but it might be worth clarifying. You can also get the uv film for your Windows which may be an option

Here in Oregon, we refer to a den as more of a manly, comfy room. Part office, part tv room. The family room is like a living room but with a tv. A living room is generally more formal and used for casual conversation. For a house that doesn't have a family and living room both, the words are interchangeable though, which can get confusing for people used to more formal living. We are fairly informal around here. I would assume drywall is like plasterboard. When houses are built, the framing goes in, filled with insulation on exterior walls, then all of the studs get covered with big sheets of drywall that then gets all the seems "taped" and smoothed and then texture is sprayed over it all, then paint. Drywall isn't used in all rooms, there is a special kind called green board used in bathrooms, which is mold resistant. Cement board is also used on any walls or floors where tile is being applied, like bathrooms or kitchens, which is also mold resistant. I am loving this subject! It's so fun to see what people all over the world call different things.

It's a non woven fibre back not paper backed hence paste the wall. The face is made from what I can only describe as pieces of cork stuck to the surface that have been dyed to give a shimmer look it is rough to the touch but soft material. You wouldn't use this where heavy traffic is expected i.e. a staircase as it would easily scuff. Yes it does look rough and you might think if you fell against it you might graze yourself but it is in fact quite springy if you press it. We install using a board and knife and it cuts fairly easily, the backing is tougher than the face to cut This picture is one inputting up right now!

Thanks Minnie, I will look for a couple of darker accessories to bring the room together. We loved the grape wallpaper and had it until recently, as we fancied a change. We haven't had the grey wallpaper long unfortunately, but it just doesn't look right so decided to have a redo. (This is the only chance I've got though so anxious to get it right!) We are upgrading to a bigger TV, but it's still in the box at the moment! Hopefully the electrician who will hang it on the wall will be able to fit us in this week or next, and then I can decide what to put above the sideboard and piano. I know the TV will be wider than the TV cabinet but unfortunately we can't change any of the furniture. I'm hoping to find a way to make it look more balanced maybe by placing something on either side of the TV cabinet like plants and/or lanterns. Here's another photo of the wallpapers up on the wall - I'm maybe leaning towards the left one, as I like the textured look - might be longer lived than the patterns? I'm not sure.
