Curtains for blue velvet sofa

We have bought a gorgeous little victorian house. It has been white walled everywhere (which is fine)
Currently thinking of buying a dark blue velvet sofa but not sure what to compliment it with in the form of curtains. I don't want to do the classic mustard yellow, burnt orange, fuchsia. We are also going to strip the floorboards back to their original state.

Any ideas?

What a lovely place! My thinking is to be bold and use stripes if you want a more modern look, or an embroidered linen for something more classic. A natural linen with white embroidery will look smashing, equally bright stripes will just pop against the white walls and dark sofa.

What a gorgeous sofa! A printed neutral linen that picks up a bit of the navy blue could look really smart and Hamptonesque. If you wished a sophisticated, bohemian look a blue and white ikat fabric could also look wonderful!

I definitely agree with Emma and James on this question. Nothing can be too old fashioned, everything can always be upgraded and fitted to a modern look. Like James mentioned, I would also accessorice in the same colour as of the sofa. Do you want a pattern on the curtains or not? Your colour scheme reminds me of a very famous Mexican architect Ricardo Legoretta who put together reds oranges pinks and purples in a hotel that he was commissioned to design called Camino Real in Mexico DF in the 60s whre I once stayed - it was so weird - unless I had been in that room I would never have imagined huge splashes of these colours together would work - but it looked great - so how about going for red or red fading into pink (how it does on sillk) in quite a heavy warm material - btw LOVE the cushions !

Hi Erin. A blush pink would work mixed with brass/gold accessories or even an emerald/grass green (maybe slightly more muted than shown minus the pattern) which would also work with brass/gold and add more green for a plant/s. I'd just consider whether there's enough room to stack the curtains back without them blocking light although it does look a really light room. I love the sofa and the wood floor sounds great. Your room is neutral though so are there any colours that appeal to you?

Thank you all. I quite like the idea of a very pale aqua although I think this might be more cushions than curtains. I like the idea of a light natural linen. It is a small room and the whole house is north facing so isn't the most light capturing despite the photo. I'd also consider painting the walls one day a very non-twee shade of duck egg green / silvery blue, something that is very neutral in tone and would work with the blue of the sofa and the pine of the floorboards.

That said, a friend suggested a steel / grey tone for the curtains.
