Bespoke furniture, not as expensive as you might think
Comments (33)I too always had the thoughts that hand made pieces were much more expensive...but not always the case... And its immensely satisfying when you get the style, size and colours of what you would need... My brother in law has made me just a few piece... Very simple, for storage.. But THEY FIT. just where they need too.. I love wood.. My Dad was a French cabinet maker in the early 50's and as child I would sit at the table and watch in amazing ways he worked with wood... Small pieces he would make us simple little toys, or no's... Nothing painted. We were very lucky in our home to have cupboards in the kitchen, on the wall fitted and it was covered in Formica... We also had a beautiful solid wood fireplace... Shelves for Mums little ornaments (which would never touch, look with your eyes only). I too like to work with wood, when having the chance...memories that will stay with me forever.. (Sorry for the reminiscing.).. But yes so wish I could afford to build my own home and incorporate all the things...Made By hand... Thanks for a very interesting article.......See MoreOpen plan wardrobe area advice
Comments (20)Brian, I strongly suspect any solution similar to those in the photos you have supplied will be extremely expensive. As you have mentioned, you have already had one company provide a price which was at a price you envisaged. Unfortunately, a designer solution such as this is rarely scalable in terms of size, the fact that you are mobilising a designer, fitter etc. will carry a substantial price from the outset. The previous suggestions offered by professionals on this site suggested by B&Q and Ikea are clearly at a different price point, but nonetheless a solution to the dilemma you presented....See MoreOrdering Bespoke Items in Time for Christmas.
Comments (5)Just drawing attention to the time factor involved when ordering bespoke items in time for Christmas. If you don't consider this now you may have a major problem....See MoreIve made some of these canvases... would they sell?
Comments (12)Personally I think that large online presence such as Etsy is not the way to go as you would have to deliver high volumes for their warehouse and even if it retailed at £300 you would end up with much less. Instead you could investigate making it a more expensive offering with a frame and glass and then see if a local interior designer might be interested in it for a project. Perhaps with a higher price tag there is a market that fits your desire for a bespoke offering....See MoreKirsty Brannagan
