exterior makeover ideas for a 1960s house
Comments (13)if you are on a budget - then you really need to focus you spend on key elements that will improve the build and/or add value. so work with the tiles etc. it won't look good being different and may actually devalue. but think new front door and ideally frame is a good idea - perhaps in a hard wood. also consider the window treatments eg roller blinds or voiles etc and how they will look from the reverse eg outside. this can be an easy way to smarten the front. and yes to some simple/architectural planting. the garage door could also be toned down to blend rather than be a 'feature' so you focus on entrance...See MoreExterior Ideas Help
Comments (20)Hi Scott. Lovely little house you've got here.. As a few others have advised, we'd go with some new Cladding for the top part of the house, Anthracite Grey would be a lovely colour to bring the house more up to date. I’ve gone with a Black Malton Composite door for you which I think keeps the house looking traditional but still up to date and fresh. Black Aluminium Casement Windows will also give your exterior a freshen up as well as a Resin Bound Driveway, I’ve gone for a more natural stone for the resin to tie in with the original tiled roof which you could simply jet wash to keep cost down and to get the tiles looking new and cleaner. A simple paint job on the white walls will easily make the front appear new and clean. New piping and gutters will also freshen up the front Some nice foliage at the door such as potted Laurels and Ficus Trees in black or grey plant pots is all you’ll need to add some greenery to the front. And I’ve dotted some of our Outdoor Wall Lights in black in-keeping with the contemporary black and grey theme, Up and Down Lights at either side of the house to lighten up the corners and a Black Lantern with a pretty vintage filament bulb for some entrance light. Hope this helps Anthracite Grey Cladding Malton Front Door Black Aluminium Casement Windows Up and Down Lights Entrance Light with Filament Bulb Kind Regards and Good Luck, Ashley at the Litecraft Team....See Morebungalow exterior ideas, kerb appeal help ?
Comments (13)Render is very 'on trend' right now, especially coupled with grey windows. 100s of houses across the country are receiving 'the treatment' in the same way. However, I think that when trends move on, what was once a house with it's own character, appropriate to its age, is obliterated by a pastiche of a passed fad and style not necessarily in keeping with the house. The resulting problem then is that you're left with a render that will need re-painting regularly and window frames which were in fashion but may later appear dated, that will require replacing or repainting. Personally, I think if you render it, it'll take on the look of a scout hut - sorry...See MoreMishmash styles exterior. Any ideas on how to improve?
Comments (18)Thank you again, ladies and E D! E D, we are on the Wye river on the border between England and Wales. We managed to track some of the people who lived here over centuries based on the unique name of the cottage (which I am not going to mention here). One was a curate who wrote a few poems about the place, then a local doctor, then a vicar (although the nearest church is about 1 mile away) - that covers the 19th century. Back to house, a pale cream was on my list of colours, Sonia, together with some light grey. Someone thought a dark orange, or pale brick red would look good, but I’m not that bold. The main impact will be on the other side of the house which is all rendered. PS we managed to get rid of the hot tub, I can’t tell you how happy that makes me, even though we had to take down part of the garden wall to get it out....See MoreARC Bespoke Interiors
