All information on slab pricing will come from your granite installer or fabricator. We are a wholesaler of the material and do not provide pricing.

LA area - I paid retail about $3,100 w/tax for each slab of Taj Mahal Quartzite, material only. Fabrication/labor is extra.

There are wide ranges in price for all the different stones, such as granite, marble quartzites, etc.

I've just seen this thread again, my last comment was in January...but here goes although you may have finished your new kitchen by now. I'm just in the throes of doing mine. Wooden floor is a lovely choice for a cold climate but I wouldn't do wooden worktops also, too matchy matchy and think of all that work maintaining them. Here in Spain marble is definitely a thing of the past as it is not tough enough, and granite has been taken over by Silestone, although the new thing is Neolith/Dekton which is very thin but super tough (bit pricey though). My advice is neutral, neutral, neutral for the stuff that costs the most money, adding colour with the cheap stuff, ie paint, blinds, etc. Bottom line: it's your kitchen so don't listen to any of us, choose what YOU like. There are kitchen companies that can replace the doors, plinths and end panels etc thus completely changing the colour of your kitchen but using existing units. One I know if is Dream doors which my neighbour used to go from dark wood to cream and I cannot tell they are the old units. I like your kitchen, the layout seems good. I feel whats making it feel a bit dated is the amount of orangey pine or similar wood. Even changing the door knobs would help. If you wanted a greater change, a handleless slab kitchen in either a matching cream as the aga, or a grey might work? As an aside, changing the colour of the floor might help too.

My kitchen was slightly larger but needed the light units. We went with a white gloss, a wood effect dark grey laminate worktop and teamed it with walnut effect laminate flooring. The flooring really warmed the look up In my experience ... I wish I'd have had full glass splashbacks as the amount of sauce that gets splattered on the painted wall would have been easier to wipe off glass! Worth the money in my opinion. I went for white/clear as didn't want to commit to a strong colour. If we had stayed (not sold it) I would have painted around the units a colour which could have easily been changed. You could also consider a clear glass splash back (above the oven) that can be screwed on. That way you can paint or paper behind it and change it when you fancy. Usually they glue them on so you are stuck with it (no pun intended) Definitely look around for a better quality gloss unit as they can chip (sister has high street ones and they always chip!)

Daisy England - I like your suggestion for the corner. If i understand correctly if I made this change then the length of units where the hob is would remain unchanged (or would i need to find an extra 5mm?) and along the sink run I would have a 45mm unit and a further 55mm to use somehow. Just trying to imagine how this would work with the above units. I'm loathe to ask magnet to amend the plan again particularly based on Jonathan's latest comment. Jonathan - I'd feel a bit of a traitor going elsewhere especially as the designer i have been working with has been so helpful. As it stands (which is far too much) i have been quoted just over £16,500 for the kitchen and utility using in the kitchen their highest spec units ID3 and planar doors and in the utility lower spec Luna units and ready built cabinets. Worktops are the top end luxury laminate with splash backs for wall area, or if I were to have quartz it would be about £21,500. We spec'd high knowing we could make cost savings by changing cabinet types. It also includes an AEG integrated hood, Electrolux Integrated hood, Warming drawer, Full Height Fridge, Full Height Freezer, Dishwasher, 5 Ceramic Hob, Combi Microwave and 2 Single ovens. Franke sinks and taps. I have no idea if this is a reasonable price but nevertheless it needs to be cheaper. In view of this would German engineered kitchen still be an option in your opinion? The other issue (which I've only really just realised as we had been concentrating on the layout) is that their colour choice for handless is limited.
