Save me from spoiling my new kitchen!
Comments (45)Hi really love your kitchen - lovely mix of cool, contemporary clean lines with the dash of colour: fantastic! I can understand your dilemma wrt the dining area. I'd tend to echo many of the previous comments - I would go for a smaller, simpler mirror with a plainer (probably white) frame and then I think there are a few options on table & chairs. White would work well - both for table and chairs - and then I'd jazz it up with some orange cushions and a nice runner or table mats. Really liked the white (Ikea?) chairs proposed by Joanna Zygo here: And the table works too. Alternatively, I like the grey/wood table you proposed (the second one), although I wonder if the style is a little "chunky" - thinner, simpler lines may work best with your very sleek units. While I recognise the "dangers" other have flagged wrt using too much white, I really think it would work here, and would really accentuate the inspired use of the orange highlights. As it currently stands, with the mirror and chrome table/chairs, I don't really get the full impact of those gorgeous orange lampshades - and they should be the stars of the show!...See MoreLayout dilemma - best use of space and rooms? Comments (19)Hi memyshell, Having rooms to let with en-suites is only going to increase the money that you can charge for each room so I think it is something you should try coming round to. (I have been in this sort of accommodation before) I do however having a toilet that is shared would be a massive plus to you as what happens when you or any of your housemates have guests do they use the en-suites? Does't sound practical to me however I have a plan using one of the plans that was already attached to the thread of this posts I will try and explain as best I can. Create a corridor that runs from the front door straight through to the wall at the back that be the wall of the kitchen/living and dining area. On the right of the wall make it a full length glazed screen so that when you walk in you can see straight to the garden but are keeping this a separate communal space. The space that is shown as reception room can be transformed into a small functional toilet (which I think is all you need) this will give guests a room to visit without entering a bedroom. The wall of the kitchen would run 3/4 of the way along the wall creating a opening rather than a door giving the space more of a flow. Make sure the door of the new bathroom is hidden behind the wall (almost in the center of the house) when standing in the kitchen area. If you require any other help don't hesitate to get in touch. May I ask where your project will be taking place as it may be something we may be able to work with yourself on? FMA...See MoreIf you could only save one item in your home, what would it be?
Comments (26)What a terrible question to have to consider- How could you ever choose??? Many say family photos - but you know what - if I lost mine it wouldn't matter too much because I can remember my life in pictures - I was there. We take so many photos on our phone and never look at them we need to try to think back more and remember. My cat? Well, he's not a possession - he chooses to live with us and we are his servants! I suppose it would have to be my first guitar I used professionally - a 1950/early 60s (?) Hofner Congress. Here - have a laugh, this is me in about 1978: The guitar lasted better than I did !...See MorePlease help me save my hallway tiles!
Comments (6)Ok, so I've tried to delete this post as I've just picked up the rest of the laminate and think that the flooring will need to be replaced. The floor level isn't the only issue. Previous owners have welded other tiles to the original ones (which is where the black glue is coming from). Also, we are soon to be running a new mains water pipe through the house and the flooring will need to come up in the hall. We are having a new boiler and pipe replaced because it currently takes 15 minutes to run a bath. I will be contacting a restoration company today to see if they can advise....See MoreV Nat
