How to hang a heavy ceiling lampshade on plaster ceiling?

Hello,

I’ve got my heart set on a gorgeous glass Turkish lampshade for my living room. However I went to buy it today and sadly
I think it’s too heavy. It’s about 3kg and our ceiling is plaster. Is there any contraption we could use or some way of securing it without risking the ceiling being compromised?

They usually come with metal chains don't they? Therefore, if you were able to find a joist in the ceiling above, you can put a hook in to it to hang the chain from.

Yes hang from a joist. Anything else would be a disaster.

Hi! Yes it's that sort of thing but I want one that you can hang further away from each light. Will google that though and see what it brings up. Ps re my cabinet - I haven't painted it yet sorry, I just meant 'now' as in when I get around to it, ha ha. Might just go with black but wondering whether to do a gloss instead of matt so it's more reflective. I did pick up a fab all white lampshade for that corner (antler style) and some white pineapple candles

In the bedrooms I would suggest a simple lampshade, to complement the colours already in the room. You can buy a kit to make your own, perhaps using the same material as the curtains. I favour modern light fittings that contrast, but equally sit comfortably, against the traditional ceiling rose. The choice is solely limited by budget. If funds allow, perhaps look at Foscarini and LZF offerings. Alternatively, BHS, Dwell and B&Q would be good alternative sources.

Reinforcing it is quite easy if you can have the floor up in the room above. However 2.2 kg shouldn't be too bad. Get your electricians opinion about how easy it is going to get screws into something solid

Hi there - Definitely agree that you need a rug to tie it altogether, good thing is you have chosen an accent colour, Teal. I would suggest to add a bit of colour to your rug and some pattern to stop it from looking too same-y if you went with a beige rug.
