stained wall help!

Hi all. I’ve recently gone through tenant eviction hell. Finally got the place back but it’s trashed. The walls are yellow with nicotine and have milder patches in the corner.
So far we have sugar soaped all the walls,sprayed a so called stained blocker type substance on the worst bits, and then painted with normal white paint. We have done 2 good coats of paint and the stains are still visible!! Does anyone have any idea what I can try/do next? Are there any better stain blockers? I was doing white walls an ceilings to make it as fresh as possible (and for ease) should I make the walls coloured so the stains aren’t so visible??

We used this https://www.screwfix.com/p/zinsser-bulls-eye-1-2-3-primer-sealer-1ltr/10135 on our mysterious recurring patches that were still visible through 4 layers of paint. Works a treat.

Thanks Rachel. Funnily enough I’ve just come back from B&Q with that exact same stuff. Fingers crossed it works for £22 a small tin!

Sadolin superdec may be what you are after but beware, a weathered look is a specialist finish. You cAnt really buy "weathered" it is after all an effect. I would say just give whatever you are using one coat, which would more than likely give it a worn look but it's not really a practical idea as when it's needs recoating it will give a stronger colour Alternatively give it a watery coat then varnish it to protect it

Claudia Raperport - Your kitchen looks really nice. Where did you get your floor from? honeypoppet - Very good point about the tiles. We have some green samples coming this week. If we don't love them I think we will play it a bit more safe with white/grey tiles. Man About The House - The DIY & Odd Job Handyman - Those tiles look really nice. Which wall(s) to wallpaper? Help!

Thanks for the photos. Sometimes it is hard to envisage a room from a written description. It is usual to feature wallpaper the wall behind a bed, but there’s a window so not ideal. Is there room to move the bed to the other wall to the left at all so the feet face the radiator? If the room is too narrow to do this, then I think papering the long wall with the radiator would work. Then you can paint the radiator the same colour as the wallpaper to help it blend a bit better.
