Kitchen layout advise/opinions
Comments (12)Great advice guys. Regarding the sink / dishwasher - I completely agree, an oversight at 2am (it's addictive this planning). With regards to the middle of the house, I'm completely torn. I have drawn several other options where we have created a den for the kids in the old kitchen, the utility and W/C up against the living room wall and then used the breakfast room as a study/homework room but my better half is very keen to replicate the ability to see throughout the house as much as possible as we have this in our current home. An earlier drawing blocked off the existing hallway after the stairs and had a crittal style window in enabling you to see into the kitchen but provides more wall space for units - freeing up the other end for full width industrial Windows/doors....... Decisions decisions. On that note - any recommendations for architects/designers (suitable for drawings to be submitted under permitted development/structural engineers report and tradesmen instructions) that cover north Kent (Medway)? Thanks all...See MoreOpinions needed on this bungalow design.
Comments (32)Hi. Attached is an updated plan I was working on over Christmas. Before anyone asks, I wasn't tipsy doing this, my PC packed in, so I drew everything freestyle on my phone, hence the occasional wonky lines. Anything can change inc measurements as it's only ideas to give to my architect who I've got an appointment with soon... if anyone would like to give their opinion on the plan, I'd really appreciate it. Some additional info: North - land currently for sale for a housing site East - best view. South - farm fields view West - views of neighbouring bungalows gardens. My plot is 1.75 acres. My hubby gets up at 5am for work so having a walk in wardrobe and ensuite next to each other means less walking through the bedroom when I'm sleeping. I love the glazed gable end as attached which I would like in the kitchen. I also like tall windows on either side of the fireplace in the lounge. I know many people split the location of bedrooms in a bungalow to reduce the hallways but as a mam to young ones, this isn't suitable for us. I should have put a study in this design somewhere but despite the size, I couldn't think where to place it....See Morepossible bathroom layout
Comments (14)Hi Aisha, We looked at the two spaces you have available and came up with the following ideas. Both of these designs can be adapted into either of the two bathrooms. Bathroom 1 (smaller one with central door) For this one we have the toilet and shower on the back wall with a window centered above the toilet, the shower is spacious enough to have double nozzles so can give you a wetroom atmosphere combined with a large bath tub and stylish vanity and basin set. Bathroom 2 (bigger room with door to side) For this bathroom we propose a freestanding oval bath tub, which gets made into a vocal point by angling it into the room with a curved wall at the end in the corner. The rooms atmosphere is further enhanced through a ceiling mounted shower head which turns the bathroom into a 5 star hotel style wetroom with vanity, toilet and bath / shower configuration. Further enhancements to this room could be tiling finishes on the curved wall corner to enhance its effect and a oversize mirror above the vanity to create the illusion of size. We hope these ideas picks up on some of the features you would like to see in your bathrooms and should you wish any further assistance please do not hesitate to contact me through our site - betterspace.co Good luck, Ed....See MoreGround floor layout- comments please (open plan kitchen, utility&hall)
Comments (18)Sorry- I don’t like your plan. In my opinion the space between the sink and hob is where the work happens so you are actually a bit tight for space. I think the door from the kitchen to the playroom is a massive fail- firstly you are inviting the kids to run past the cooking area, secondly is splits the kitchen and there are safety implication for having a walkway through the kitchen, I also think it makes your kitchen plan feel disjointed. I also think that if the children are young they won’t want to be in the playroom, they will want to be where you are. If you are worried about the playroom being dark this is easily sorted with better lighting and a pale coloured floor. Alternatively make this the grown up room and the kids playroom near the front door. I also think that putting the sitting area around the corner in the extension makes it feel enclosed and a little tight because of its location. I think you have put too many stools at the island and in reality people rarely use more than 3. In my opinion better to have fewer comfortable seats that are spread out with room to eat. I also think you missed an opportunity to have a cupboard near the front door to hide coats, shoes and a vacuum cleaner. I think that if you want an extra shower it may be easier to put this off the bootroom- a bigger utility/ bootroom area may help later to keep sports equipment/ dogs/ ironing etc etc out of sight. There is a privacy argument to put it where you have but I suspect the wall you have moved to take a corner off the kitchen is a job that will require a steel....See Morehillfly
