Paint or paper chimney breast? And layout help
Comments (20)Going back to original options with the sofas opposite each other, can you fit a tv unit under the stairs as that could look quite good? With regard to the L shaped arrangement with the tv on the unit, you could drill a circle in the back of the unit and store the play station and sky in there. Another option which I think could work is to swap the dining and living round as the dining end looks bigger. Have one sofa on the kitchen wall with the other opposite ( place the sofas about a foot from both walls) and hang the tv above the radiator. You could make a feature of the room with a built in tv, Sky and radiator cover, as per example attached from Andre hodges. That should still give you at least 4ft for a clear corridor to the kitchen ( on the basis the 7ft measurement you gave was from the side of the kitchen door!) I wouldn't paper the recesses now I've seen the whole room. Maybe considering papering or painting the kitchen wall to Bring the wall in so as to make it feel wider and give more interest to the lounge....See MoreMirror advice for fireless chimney breast
Comments (3)hello, Oh yes how strange re it only being a narrow depth! Are you are semi-detached?? Wonder if the previous owners have built the alcoves out as some houses (like ours) are single skin between them so no cavity.... Have you thought about adding a decorative fire surround or shelf anyway to give the wall more purpose and make a feature of it? You could always hang an electric flat panel fire in there as well which is what I would do. The round mirror would look nice and break up the straight lines (we had a round one on ours) if you have a straight fire underneath...See MoreShould I widen my chimney breast?
Comments (6)I think that the present fire place surround you have in your living / Dining Room has such an architectural character which yo do not find these days in most home. So why replace it with a marble one. You should remove the paint off it and return it to its original colour. With regard to extending the Chimney breast on either side, it's up to you but is it worth it. I reality you should remove the existing wall paper and plaster the existing Party Wall and then paint the recess wall a natural colour and paint the Chimney breast a different colour to emphasize prominent. Good luck with your final decision. Remember, what ever decision you make, you will have to live with it. Regards Alain B...See MoreAdvice please on how to style the chimney breast
Comments (9)I think a lovely big mirror in gold or silver will always look good, i think the photo with the plants above aslo looks good, you could maybe include some fairy lights on the beam to make it feel even more cosy with maybe some ivy?...See MorePaul
